Re: Spain vs French

For Spain:

Probably best to go atp stagecoach if there are enough TPs. Then camp the front TP+tower and mass units. Imo kinda hard for France to deal with.

If there arent enough TPs, I'm not sure tbh. Prolly depends on the map and hunts etc. Might be able to contain if his hunts are bad, otherwise you .....

Re: What is up with some people playing this game?

Kinda sad. So many examples:

- there's one guy who always plays 1v1 unrated as France on GP RE. Why? I dont even know.
- there's another dude who often (always?) plays Saguenay 1v1 unrated as Brits (I think). He then does this massive wall/turtle/outpost waterboom. I played him once and eventually qui .....

It's not just him, that's the crazy thing. I can understand one guy who might be a bit autistic, but so many?

Re: What is up with some people playing this game?

I can understand focusing on one civ, but I dont get it when somebody does essentially the exact same, often quite cheesy build every single time (eg full water lame or otto revolt).

What is up with some people playing this game?

A bit of a flame thread, but I won't call any names, so it should be fine.

I am honestly a bit baffled by many of the people who play this game. I mean, aoe3 is a game with a lot of options, there are many different civs, ages, maps, strategies. At the same time, the game is fairly old, offers like z .....

Re: Map Vetoes in Tournaments

I am against map vetoes. The winner should be able to triumph on all kinds of maps. Especially because the tournament pool is already fairly limited anyway.

If lack of map diversity is a problem, there are other alternatives:

You could vary the order in which maps are plqyed from round to round, maki .....

Re: spain vs otto double rax

Well, doesnt it make sense that you need to scout your opponent? And it's not like it's so hard to scout. Just be in ottos base when he ages up. If he uses the tower, he cant really 2rax rush or if he does it will suck.

If he goes for 400w, he could still FF, but its 80 % he will rush. What else woul .....

Re: spain vs otto double rax

Isnt this like a lot of MUs?

If civ A plays right, it should win, but if you mess up just a bit, you will lose.

Eg many civs vs Russian rush, India especially (India favored if perfect play, but easier to win for Russia); many civs vs aggressive Spanish FF (eg Japan).

Re: ZeroEmpires: The story of Escape, the hardest year of my life

Its a different community, you cant compare it... Aoe3 has like no streamers who even use a microphone and only like 1 channel with regular tournament content (ESOC). There was like no competition for Escape.

Aoe2 community might be bigger, but there are also a lot more pro streamers, players who use .....

Re: Why no naming and shaming known hackers?

Thanks!

Sucks, though. I don't even mind losing games, but losing to cheating just blows. Makes me want to play on ep only, but I have so little time to play that I can't wait for hours for a game and also lack the practice (and skill, probably) to compete with most players there...

Btw, is there a hack that prevents your native scout from going into stealth mode in certain areas of the map? I was playing a guy and I tried putting my native scout into stealth a couple of times, but it didnt work quitr a few times, even after running around a bit. His explorer wasnt nearby, nor .....

Why no naming and shaming known hackers?

As I understand it, ESOC doesn't allow cheating accusations. I get that you guys can't ban ppl from ESO and that cheating accusations can be unfair and/or toxic. But they also have an advantage: They allow others to add known cheaters to their pest list or their friend list to e.g. avoid QS when the .....

Re: Sioux Discussion Thread

Sioux seem kinda strong atm tbh. The teepees compensate for the 2 things which they used to be weak against: strong HI rushes and having a weak eco.

Now it seems kind of hard to deal with them. Many civs can't rush them due to the teepees, you also can't really push in early fortress because their ea .....

Re: ZeroEmpires: The story of Escape, the hardest year of my life

The reason I'm being so critical is mostly that I struggle to understand how anyone could ever have thought that this venture might make a profit. I actually already wondered that years ago when Escape was founded, but even more so once the big studio space was rented.

Actually, many ppl shared that .....

Callen, ofc you're right in so far as money isn't everything. But it's nice if you can pay your bills and have an employment.

But this isn't a good example of "big risk, but potential for huge success". The entire way they went about this project it was doomed to fail from the start.

Now I'm not saying it would've been impossible to be profitable if they had chosen a different approach.

This discussion has already .....

Re: ZeroEmpires: The story of Escape, the hardest year of my life

Zak is a nice guy and the events were organized and great.

But as Dolan rightfully pointed out, you can't make enough money if you just naively finance a huge overhead without any sort of real business plan.

Most aoe2 streamers can barely afford to live off it with a couple of hundred subscribers - a .....

Re: Real and fake civs

Honestly, China is not that easy. China feels OP because if they can reach their max potential unhindered, they are really strong and and seem almost unbeatable: tower wonder, consulate, great shipments, strong cav, disciples, free units etc (kinda like the Sioux deathball). At this point, they are .....

Re: AOE4 Trailer Released

Honestly, not a big fan of EE, even for single player. The idea sounds fun, but all of it seems very immersion breaking and alternate history (much more so than unhistorical stuff in aoe3, which at least doesn't break the suspension of disbelelief): knights fighting tanks etc?

It also seems annoying .....

Re: AOE4 Trailer Released

I doubt that^^

AOE3 will be more like StarWars 7: a remake, but also a way for the fans to show that they are still very interested etc. If it succeeds, future age of-titles will be more ambitious, I'm sure.

Re: AOE4 UI Seen!

If the real UI will look anything like this one, I will be happy.

Less focus on having a nice looking, fancy, "olde" UI and instead having a small, practical one that keeps the actual screen free of clutter.
