My concerns would be 1) that players might cancel out of the match if they don't like the map for the civ they're playing or want to play, and 2) the random map aspect forces player to adapt to map, instead of the other way around. 3) Players could go for certain OP strategies if they know the map ...

Never understood, I only know that currently the tops are from 1 lieutenant up to some colo lt for teams and from captain up to colo lt for 1v1 this is my impression.
