Re: Official AoE3: Definitive Edition Thread

845 don’t underestimate Microsoft’s incompetence. That company can hardly tell right from left sometimes. 8820 , sorry but I don’t see that happening. Not only would that ruin the point of releasing DE in the first place, but I doubt that anyone currently working at Microsoft knows how to push any ...

Re: ESOC Autumn Championship 2018

Indeed, I think the previous rules catered more towards the more active player; rather than the other way around. If you were inactive, you would often come into a series completely oblivious to the map pool and with no plan in mind. At least now everyone should know what the map pool is and have at...

Re: Can we restore surgeons to nilla glory?

Well, the medicine man treasure is very underrated. I’ve had a couple of games where I’ve probably healed over 1000-2000 resources worth of units with him.

There are probably games where it’s worth constructing healers, and we just don’t consider it because it’s never been part of the meta.

Re: Discussion: amalgamation + silversmith

Spice trade is a better card than Silversmith simply because of how many more hunts than mines there are on any map. You have to burn through 2 full mines before Silversmith becomes better than 700c, at which point there may not even be many easily accessible mines left, and you would've been better...

Re: Can we restore surgeons to nilla glory?

For comparison, the Iroquois firepit has a big button that gives your Warchief the healing ability from Vanilla. It's completely worthless for the amount of resources you pay. However, if it gave you the same healing ability as a priest, surgeon, or Indian monk, I would get it almost every game.

Re: Can we restore surgeons to nilla glory?

Aren’t they actually way worse on Nilla? The cooldown is very long for the small amount of hp it gives you, you have far less control over how thinly you spread that healing, and on TAD even though you can’t heal during battle, you can heal far more hp out of combat than you can on Vanilla. The only...

Re: Advanced Formations

If games are really laggy sometimes you can notice that commands you inputted for one unit will affect a different unit instead. Like if I tell my huss to go raid and then select an idle vill, sometimes the vill will walk in that direction instead of the hussar. I don't actually use hotkeys for adva...

Re: [Unofficial] [Civ rules] Poll about Autumn 2018

My view on this is that we do want some civ restrictions to encourage diversity and limit specific civ dominance, but I don't think we should place such harsh limitations on it as having no resets. While being versatile and having a decent number of civs at your disposal is important for any competi...

Re: What would AOE3 look like if it had a serious pro scene?

Maybe the discussion should be more about how different AoE3 would look at the highest level if it was large enough to have a competitive scene; as whether or not AoE3 could even be an esport is too controversial. Although I find it funny that the people who say there's no chance AoE3 could ever be ...

Re: What would AOE3 look like if it had a serious pro scene?

There have been good AoE3 players that have competed at high levels in other games. To make AoE3 an esport you have to consider only two things: 1) Is it competitive? Yes/No 2) More importantly, is the player base large enough to be lucrative? Yes/No If you increase the player base of AoE3 by 100-10...

Re: What would AOE3 look like if it had a serious pro scene?

If you could remove the lag and a few of the obvious bugs it would be fine. The only real randomness really is stomp / divine strike / crit mechanics with Asian civs. And warships have RNG ROF too, which is stupid. Treasures need more appropriate guardians for the amount of resources they guard, and...

Re: What would AOE3 look like if it had a serious pro scene?

I feel like a lot of the people here are underestimating how much more there is to the game that's unexplored or ignored. I think only a few of the current top players would even be able to compete if the game had an actual pro scene. I feel like things like water and healers (maybe not trained, but...

Re: Discussion: Cherokee native upgrade

Tier 2 coin upgrade. I don't remember the exact maths, but basically this upgrade isn't affected by the Cherokee tech, and so it makes it only just barely worth it to get the TP for the upgrades alone. Perhaps it's not even worth it at all if you delay your market techs for too long for it. You kind...
