If they push a patch for AoE3 I wonder why you would even buy the DE. But I guess that's good news for us, if normal AoE3 gets updated we don't have 3 kinds of players (RE, EP and DE) but just 1, the DE. A patch for Steam AoE3 wouldn't turn it into a DE but only add the requirements for cross-play....

You're quoting from a paragraph that's only TWC (so no Disciples), otherwise correct. Also, eagles were exclusively countered by Skirmishers (both gunpowder and archer. Light Infantry as a whole is countered by Heavy Infantry though, so that stays. :)
