Re: Pr25 and under tournament?

In the main tournament all players from PR15 and above are accepted. Clearly a big part of those lower PR won't reach the late rounds, therefore there is a Second Chance tournament. Those that lost in the early stages have the opportunity to play there. It is the 2nd time, such a tourney is hosted, ...

Re: What is more important: IQ or mechanics?

Basically deep learning machines understand what's good and what's bad solely based on the initial rules and the winning condition (or payout scheme), both of which are known info. I was thinking that a move that leads to the winning condition is a good move. Consider flappy bird AI: you can say th...

Re: What is more important: IQ or mechanics?

Ι'm giving importance to that point, because I've been working on a dataset that is going to train a system, and making choices about it, is more complicated in other situations unlike chess or games with a simple set of rules. I'm not by any mean an expert but I think there are several ways deep l...

Re: What is more important: IQ or mechanics?

By variables I mean the features that you need to feed the AI, but in some situations the basics are not always enough. By adding extra rules or norms of how the game should be played may not lead to expected results. Then again it misses the purpose of an AI playing the game itself because the huma...

Re: What is more important: IQ or mechanics?

Even with an immense amount of time if you "teach" the incorrect variables and give weights at the wrong features, the AI will be unable to solve the problem of playing optimally the RTS. In chess you can determine the movements of every piece and calculate the possibilities of them moving...

Re: What is more important: IQ or mechanics?

I watched the entire deepmind presentation of alphago and that was still a form of brute force. No it does not calculate all possibilities, but it still has an insane amount of information and plays an insane amount of games versus itself. In that sense its still brute force; its basically solving ...

Re: What is more important: IQ or mechanics?

The binary isn't IQ vs mechanics, but rather decision making and mechanics. Decision making includes strategic decisions on which you adapt your game given your scouting, forseeing army movements, looking at deck, checking natural resources spots and others. Mechanics have to do with operational thi...

Apart from these fun series we enjoyed, kudos to both for their sportsmanship. They both played smoothly and tried their best! It's refreshing to see people strategising to win the game rather than pure mechanics.

Re: the patch and all of the changes it has gone trough

Clearly the tops are aware of the mechanics of most MUs and civ-specific specialities, and this is the main reason they are the ones for whom EP caters. I have been thinking whether accepting balance isn't a matter of its goodness, but the way it's marketed. Recently I played some person on ESO and ...

Re: Knuschelbär vs tabben

Game 3 and 4 was casted from recordings and viewers seemed to be totally fine with this experience, why not just make it standard? Does the UI work properly with casted games? If not, is it something that can be easily fixed? Also, I bet the donations would be smaller during the recorded games. And...

Re: the patch and all of the changes it has gone trough

That is a bad example, Japan is a top tourney civ. Kynesie easily proves that. Japan's water and general turtle are very strong options for the player and with lots of effort to break them for the opponent.

Re: the patch and all of the changes it has gone trough

First of all I want to highlight something: Balance at rank 40 is not necessarily balanced at rank 20! . If you balance for top players it might cause issues for rank 15-30 games, so having a perfectly balanced tournament final doesn't mean the majority of people will enjoy playing the game. Not ma...

Re: Iroquois Discussion Thread

if it's so good/anti india why is nobody playing them in tournaments? I think india wins em but most of the people play the MU too passive as colonial india. Because people played their best civ, and noone mains Iro. Also they're very map dependant as they're bad on no TP maps. Indeed few people ha...
