Re: Back herding.

Is the maximum herdable distance (before they backherd) hardcoded globally or does it depend on the map?

Would it be possible to make maps with different herdable distances, or would EP be able to modify this distance?

Re: 4 vill semi french

In my limited (1st Lt) understanding:

  • 4v 700w 700c: Slightly slower semi-FF with additional pop space during colonial (e.g. 2 batches of huss), TP, and/or second gold upgrade.
  • 4v 700c 700w: Quick semi-FF with 1 military building and 2 houses from age up, so limited to 40 pop. 700w is needed for pop sp .....

There is this comparison spreadsheet that lets you look up all the numbers. It's old, but should be accurate for the official patch.

Re: Patch wall connectors

I don't think an RTS game (or MOBA, for that matter) needs "APM sinks". Starcraft is considered high APM because APM makes a big difference in unit control, not because it makes you perform multiple consecutive actions to create a building efficiently (AoE3 walls) or constantly manage your .....

Re: What if native posts auto-trained their units?

Is it possible for EP to remove the native TP icon from the score?
That wouldn't change the gameplay, but it would require actual scouting to detect and prepare for a fast native rush rather than seeing it coming from a mile away.

Re: Patch wall connectors

Alternatively, what if the cost for pillars were set to 0? It would still be beneficial to delete them, but the difference isn't as big since only build time is affected.

Would it be possible to prevent pillar-only walls in some way so people can't just plop down a whole bunch of free pillars in that .....

Alternative age 1 cards for China TP start

I've been looking at China openings recently and found most of the build order discussions to revolve around getting 2 villages early and sending Northern Refugees, while lately the village+TP builds have become more popular.

In a village+TP opening, sending Northern Refugees feels meh, it's passable .....

Why do you put stagecoach on food and send food crates while gathering coin? Coin gathers a lot slower than food, why not get it from stagecoach/crates while your vils gather the food?

What happens when you uncheck the windowed mode box in the graphics settings? Does it just ignore it? Crash? Something else?

Re: EP 6.0.x Beta [2019-02-20]

Good to hear, and thanks for pointing out how to check!

Based on this post the update seems to work (i.e. not break anything) on systems without any GPU as well. Does anyone have an AMD video card (Radeon, probably) and could check whether that works as well?

Another way to tell whether you're on GPU .....

Re: TP-Samwise BO

This discussion is really interesting, would you be open to do a showmatch on this?

Seems there are two contrasting opinions about whether 4v 700c is beaten by 4v 700w 700c in the mirror or not. Maybe something like a BO5 matching up these two strategies on a few different maps can lead to some insig .....

Re: Teaching Robo AOE3

In teaching/learning a new skill, I would generally aim for two things: Don't try to do too much at once, and aim to always have some sense of accomplishment.

With that in mind, I think starting with Huns in AoE2 or Ottomans in AoE3 is a nice shortcut to focus on some of the high-impact things first .....

Re: smurfs are ruining the game

I can relate to the feeling, but I think it's important to understand that a win rate of ~50% is expected when playing people around your skill level. Sometimes your opponent may have a particularly good game while yours isn't going too well, and even though you may feel you never had a chance it's .....

Re: Zuterjection Podcast #5

There was a tournament announced on the Escape Gaming stream a few days back, although my concern is about content and events in general, not only this fairly small and specific tournament.

My concern is that if Escape is taking EP as a given for their content, there's a risk that a large number of p .....

Re: Zuterjection Podcast #5

I think Zuta is making some very important points regarding the fragmentation of the player/viewer base. When looking to develop the community, it's important to keep the potential audience as large as possible, otherwise it will be hard to grow and get support for larger events.
Despite all the impr .....

Re: ESOC Patch suggestions, comments and discussion

Thank you, that sounds good.

I was a Java developer for many years and have done a few smaller projects in C# and C++, so I imagine with a bit of practice I'd be able to understand the coding parts. I haven't done any AoE3 modding, only a bit of XML-based Civ4 modding many years ago. I'm only a PR 20 .....

Re: ESOC Patch suggestions, comments and discussion

Is there a developer guide somewhere that describes how EP is developed, in terms of UI changes, implementing balance, updating map scripts etc?
I'd be interested to know what technologies and environments are needed to perhaps fiddle with a thing or two.

I'm not nearly as experienced as most of the people who already commented, but I play a lot of Otto at lower to mid levels (18xx Elo, ~20 PR) so I probably was at OP's level just a few months ago.

For me personally, the toughest matchups are the native American civs: Aztecs, Sioux, Iroquois. All 3 ar .....
