Well, the main downside is that you probably wouldnt be able to make anything BUT villagers. Then again, that could make for a intersting villager rush on the Discovery Age :p

Wonder build order.

Hello there. So, recently, I found myself curious... As for what is usually your favourite build orders with the Asian civs, and why. I thought I would share my own, and my reasoning behind it, to see if you have any suggestions on how it could bne improved. Obviously, all of these build orders will...

Re: Mercenaries and Outlaws.

Eh, I still think it is worth it for Japan. You see, it feels nice to have a light cavalry unit that is actually good. Even if you do not plan on basing your whole strategy-Around-The Yojimbos, merely having the option is something that feels nice to me :p. As for the other civilizations, it is real...

Noob question here: Why would sending the Atonement or Dance Hall cards result on you losing? I mean... Is there something about these cards that just royally sucks and I never noticed?

Re: Complementary Civ to Ottoman?

Although I love the Indians, I was never really sure of how to feel about the Urumi. I guess that... It is not that I feel that it is weak: It is that I feel that it is not strong enough to justify its "gimmick" of only being possible to send by shipments. Or maybe it is because, since it ...

Re: Mercenaries and Outlaws.

u813 i was pretty sure black riders have a fire rate of 4 instead of 3? In regards to pistoleros, they lose musk wars no question but I find them more useful than pikes where that is your only anti cav (dutch, china, sort of Germany). Comancheros aren't bad either as dutch i was playing around with...

Re: Mercenaries and Outlaws.

Not sure if I fully see the connection between "Mamelukes being avaliable on the Imperial Age", and, "Then being irrelevant". Is that because the Imperial Age guard upgrades make standart units more cost-efficient then their mercenary versions? If yes, I can see why would that be...

Re: Mercenaries and Outlaws.

u9894 Hmmm, I never thought of their low HP as TOO much of a problem( As they are mainly a back row, hit-and-run kind of unit ), but I agree the banner armies they are trained-At-Do hinder their efficiency a lot. Though, Qiang Pikeman can have their potential vastly improved by certain cards( Perha...

Re: Mercenaries and Outlaws.

"Sioux can ship 10 Pistoleros for 500 coin which can be a very strong power spike." It has just hit me... That if literally any other civilization got a shipment like that, it would probably be considered worthless due to the sheer population space the 10 Pistoleros would occupy :p. If you...

Re: Mercenaries and Outlaws.

To be honest, that doesnt surprise me too much. Actually... I am kind of surprised they even fared as well against Gurkhas and Ruyter as they did... I guess that "Just charging into the Gurkhas in meele mode" was never a tactic I tried using with Yojimbo. If I knew they could actually mana...

Mercenaries and Outlaws.

... So, thoughts on then? I will be honest: As a general rule, I dont like then. Either when they are trained from the Saloon or even when they are sent from shipments. In general, I would avoid unit shipments that require me to be sitting on a thousand or so gold, as I would rather use all of that ...

Re: Meele infantry.

30% ranged resistance is equivalent to 43% more ranged HP, and they have 33% more HP than musketeers already, so that adds up to 90% more ranged HP, while costing 80% more than musketeers (although food gathers quicker than coin). Musketeers have a higher base attack yes, so their ranged attack is ...

Re: Meele infantry.

Yes, the French do get Musketeers! ... So do about half of the civilizations on this damn game! The question is: How do their Musketeers fare, compared to other civilizations Musketeers? Comparing heavy infantry with light cavalry is in and by itself a bad comparisson to make. The only similarity b...

Re: Meele infantry.

There are also the unique mercenaries of the Asian civilizations, that can only be sent after you sent the Atonement card. I kind of like those, particularly the Yojimbo Cavalry Archer, which I hope that you will agree with me when I say that is a far superior replacement for the Yabusame. The Yoji...

Re: Meele infantry.

As a general rule, I am not much of a fan of mercenary units as a concept. Most of then are just "Take this default unit, make it more expensive but stronger", what is pretty boring. With that said, analysing in terms of utility, Swiss Pikeman are amazing. It is basically what happens whe...

Re: Top 5 best heavy cavalry civilizations.

Iroquois cavalry is PASSABLE on the early game( In terms of raw stats, Kanya Horseman and Musket Rider are only slightly worse off then the Hussar and the Dragoon... And they are also cheaper ), but it only gets worse as the game progress. I somehow totally forgot about Meteor Hammers. On their own ...

Re: Top 5 best heavy cavalry civilizations.

I was considering to put China, actually! But I eventually decided to put Russia instead because Cossacks are basically a more powerfull, more versatile version of the Steppe Riders. Not sure if I should put China instead of India, but then again, it would be kind of boring as Steppe Riders and Coss...

Silly question: If certain famous figures were to play AOE3, what nation would they play as?

So? It can either be a currently living celebrity, a historical figure, or even a fictional character from a stabilished piece of media. The only rule I will stabilish is no historical figures that would have been alive during the timeframe of AoE3, on one of its canon nations, for the simple reason...

Indeed they dont. I always assumed they did because of how poorly Coyotes fare against Lancers, relatively to how-Well-Hussars fare against then.
