Re: What's the deal with Turkey and the Kurds?
I suppose Turkey simply bombed areas where Kurdish militants were known to hide and, according to what news agencies report, most of the casualties are among militants. Unfortunately, again, there were also some civilian casualties, people that got caught in the fire, because they stayed back, they ...

Re: What's the deal with Turkey and the Kurds?
Yeah, that might be one consequence.
But the current US administration probably doesn't have any future plans to get involved in any other external conflicts that don't concern US security directly. So they are probably thinking this is of no consequence to any of their future policies.

Re: What's the deal with Turkey and the Kurds?
Kurds were the wardens of ISIS. They helped liberate ISIS stronghold of Raqqa in 2017. With them out of the way, look forward to an undoing of the years of counter-insurgency work in the region. Disgusting Well then maybe Kurds shouldn't have organised terror attacks in Turkey and killed so many ...

Re: What's the deal with Turkey and the Kurds?
u1387 Welp, if not all Kurds are terrorists or PKK supporters, does that mean Turkey should not do anything about the terror attacks they organise in the border area? I mean it's not like Turkey needs more territory, that's not why they're doing this. That territory will eventuall...

You can look at the bright side: if Trump gets impeached, Pence becomes president.

@Cometk Meh, I don't think the USA "supports Turkish invasion", it's more like "yeah, whatever, we don't want to get involved much anymore".

Re: What's the deal with Turkey and the Kurds?
1. Turkey is a country with settled and well-defined borders. 2. Kurds are an ethnic group that is spread all over the Middle East, among 5 countries. 3. They're not the only big ethnic group in the world without a country, there are tens or even hundreds of them. 4. Some of the parties that represe...

OK, this is where things are getting gloomier and grieving:
Or you could say it's a song of meditation and suspension over an abyss.

Re: 2020 Democratic Primary
You're still thinking in the old ways, expecting him to be a puppet in the hands of a "reasonable" bureaucratic apparatus, like Obama or Bush were. No, he makes it a point of pride out of being unpredictable and talking politics without using weasel words. And yes this makes him look like ...

Re: 2020 Democratic Primary
Of course I read it. It's his idea of acting like a 19th century president. He doesn't give a shit about "expertise" and PhDs. He acts like a general and he talks using power language. It's pure politics, really. Except the style is from another epoch. And that's the idea.

Re: 2020 Democratic Primary
That reaction came later, once the media and pundits started making a big fuss about the whole thing. It's pretty much carrot and stick diplomacy. The decision was announced on the 6th, then the media, Dems and some Repub started foaming about the whole thing for a few days. Eventually Trump issued ...

Re: 2020 Democratic Primary
Don't you get it? He wants the world to show its true face. Let them go at each other's throats, so that everyone can see how "civilised" they are and how the world would look like if the USA weren't policing it. Then maybe everyone would realise they should have been thankful. Or start pa...
