I don't think it was a failure, but the restrictive civ set wasn't great. In the finals of a tourney meant to showcase the TWC civs a warchief civ won against a vanilla or TAD one once, Aizamk's Sioux vs Russia.

Re: All maps/standard maps
Off topic but I really don't like playing on standard maps. Map plays a huge role in what civ I'll pick, and standard kinda forces me to play only France or maybe Dutch because my other civs can be royally screwed on certain maps.

My guess/hope is the time period is early post-colonial America, with civs like Brazil, Mexican Empire, Haiti, Gran Colombia and USA joining Britain/Spain/France and various native tribes. Also kinda suspicious about this timing, but if it's legit it gives me hope that they don't pass over the era b...

I'll add ya. My main issue is late game. I often get ahead and then can't finish it off.

Re: most played matchup?
I know my most played is France vs Japan, a matchup I can't seem to get the hang of, even though I know what France is supposed to do. I've switched to Russia and Brits lately and had more success. Because of how often a Japanese player will take the matchup against Russia, Russia vs Japan will prob...

Requesting Kynesie replays
Looking to improve my turtling strats, specifically with Ports and Brits. Who better to learn from than the master of wall spam?
Of course if there's a replay out there using a Kynesie-esque strat with those civs it'll work too. I know Bonneng does something weird with Brits and VC.

As others have said, FN is sadly useless. The other manor boosting card, estates, is one I'm a fan of in both treaty and non treaty.

Re: Russia vs Japan
In my experience eco is fine as long as you can get steel traps. I get pretty regular batches of 20 Strelets.
But as I said, this is specifically for mid range players. Someone with a more nuanced grasp of the game will probably sniff out the bluff

Hey all, so I decided to try my hand at a strategy write up, but seeing how my PR is hardly impressive, I'm directing this one specifically towards newer players, around the Lance Corporal to Master Serg range. Any 2nd Lieuts and up feel free to correct what I say. So, if you're starting out in the ...

Re: Thoroughbreds in 1v1?
I'll defend the card, but it's far from a sure thing. It's basically a Plan B or C card, very useful if you get in one of those age 3 stalemates, and shouldnt be your first option, but I keep it in my decks just in case. I don't think riding school or early skirms are better, though I do have early ...

I think France straight up wins this matchup except on EP, where Ports are ridiculous.
The biggest advantage Portugal would have are their superior dragoons negating the French heavy cav

Re: AoE3 Times: Issue #002
I just had a mirror game where I used CdBs in an emergency to hold off a big push and ended up using them to shoot away my opponents hunts and build a barracks on his last coin mine. It ended with ~40 CdBs and like 6 musks fighting at once and was hilarious and... I didnt record it :(

Re: dutch check or rush play
I like the Dutch a lot, but they do straight up lose some matchups. You need to reach Age 3 ASAP so lots of civs that thrive on early pressure (Germany, Russia, India-ish) can take them out easily. But if you survive, or your opponent tries to out boom you, the Dutch can spam out endless batches of ...

Re: Conscript to Lieutenant - A Beginner's Guide to Basics
Any advice for someone stuck at Master Serg? I've got the Samwise and 5 cav semi builds down for France but I often blow games after starting out with an early lead and am stuck in the 16-18 PR range. Imo when you feel stuck in a lower level, it might be a good time to start exploring new civs. Wha...
