Re: DE mercs and outlaws
Comments that elaborate their reasoning should not be taken into consideration? What do we base consideration on; just whether you agree with them or not? If we want to have a meaningful discussion I think it's essential to explain the reasons for an opinion. Perhaps you could explain yours so we ca...

Re: Architects and Lombards
The 700c comes with a lombard, so by itself it's kind of like a weird crate shipment of 525f 350w that gathers itself, but much slower than normal crates. If you already have a lombard or two for food conversion purposes it becomes better though; it makes your food conversion more efficient and the ...

Re: USA strength?
I think the US isn't really fully understood yet, even though it's been around for a year. There are a lot of options but not much consensus on what to do when. I'm sure there are some high-level US players who have opinions on best strategies for different maps and matchups, but not much of it has ...

Re: Architects and Lombards
Very interesting analysis, thank you. Additional architects being worth it depend on whether there are enough things to build that are not time-sensitive. A barracks or stable is often something you need right now, not in 2 minutes. One architect on house duty is probably good to have, but if you're...

Re: Post your thoughts on the DLC here
As others have noticed, vils with greatcoats now show 203 HP rather than 202. I wonder if that's a general change to always round up HP for display (those vils actually have 202.5 HP) to get rid of the oddity of having units at <1 HP showing as 0. Has anyone seen a living unit at 0 HP since this upd...

In its current state I don't think this should be on the wall. There are some good builds in here, but also some rather questionable ones and articles on the wall shouldn't require the uninformed reader to sift through for themselves imo.

Alt key for viewing minor native techs
When clicking on an unbuilt minor native settlement, pressing and holding alt is supposed to show the minor native techs and other buttons. This isn't working for me, pressing alt on a minor native settlement does nothing. The alt key is working correctly for attack move and to show HP bars. Does an...

Re: Searching for USA "standard BO"
If you chop for market + hunting dogs + steel traps during transition you have time for the 2 shipment card. The capitol doesn't need to come before you click up, a few seconds after clicking is fine too. For a no-market FF I agree it doesn't fit. In the sharpshooter semi I suppose you're sending th...

Re: Searching for USA "standard BO"
Virginia age up isn't needed anymore, that was back when the capitol card was state-specific. Now it's just a regular age 2 card. Virginia is still good with the bonus shipment card, but Pennsylvania for the church card (2.5c trickle free tech and some food-based sharpshooters and carbines) may be a...

Re: Searching for USA "standard BO"
The standard age 1 build is 16 vils age up with French immigrants I think. In age 2 you have options, not sure if there is a standard build. On a map with a possible 3 TP stagecoach that's reasonably defensible, Chinese immigrants followed by a second card (capitalism, Irish at 5 minutes) is an alte...

Re: How do you go about teaching new players how to play?
It might be best to just let them mess around a bit with the campaign and single player matches first so they can explore the game and it doesn't feel like homework. When they're ready and motivated to focus on multiplayer, ask them to pick one civ to focus on first. Best might be one with some sort...

Re: Rapid-Fire MU of the Week #2: USA vs Ottoman
u8305 no, that won't work Ottoman age 2 is better I'm sure it is by itself, but against a 3 TP stagecoach US with only 1 TP for Otto (on a map like Dakota with 4 contestable TPs), are they actually able to contest the sheer mass of state militia? US has a lot of early shipments e...

What if US opens with 3 TP Chinese immigrants and stays age 2 defending them? Otto will be the ones having to siege and state militia are very efficient, especially once the arsenal techs come in.

Re: When will they support better spectator mod?
I agree, mostly that. This isn't a matter of greed or maximizing profits either; the developers are people doing a job and need to get paid. To be honest I'm surprised at the amount of content and regular support they're able to put out, I would have thought the revenue wouldn't be enough to cover a...

Re: Italy & Malta 2 New civs coming May 26th
If it's 170c that's close to the cost of a Jaeger. Assuming these are age 3 stats, I think it's a situational anti-skirm Jaeger replacement that's much less effective against heavy infantry and downright ineffective against ranged cav. If anything this unit discourages going for heavy skirms against...

Small anti-skirm nerf for dervishes, small big benny nerf, and a 3 second garrison delay to make Inca less annoying to play against. Oh, and crewed fishing boats of course! Sounds good to me, I don't think any major balance changes were needed and obviously they have their hands full with all the ne...

Re: coffee mill guns
That math only works for units that shoot instantly. Gatling guns (and organ guns, for that matter) shoot over time though. My understanding is that only the time between volleys is reduced, the volleys themselves still take the same time as always. I'm not sure how long that is. I think the correct...

Re: The Ethiopia Early Monastery FF (the EEM)
Sounds cool, thank you. The one thing I don't particularly like is that you have to double upgrade in early age 3, which is expensive and takes time. What do you think about gascenya/shotel or jav/oromo so you only need to research one? If you're still generating enough influence (or switch the mona...

Re: Can someone help me with Ethiopia? A general help
I like the 3 monasteries to go for an abun boom and get 9 or so extra villagers equivalent for 600c 340w right at the start of age 2. I usually keep them on mostly coin except when getting ready to fast age. The abuns and monasteries alone finance the coin portion of constant shotel production. I'm ...

Around 1400 I used to do this: Sell cow for 150w to get house and hunting Send 2 vils plus abun, sell another cow to have the abun build monastery immediately, set to 100% coin Age up with 300c and war camp In transition, chop for second monastery (build with abun) and a house, with good treasures a...

Re: AOE3 - Public Update Preview - April Update
Marvelous year producing roughly +15% (considering walking time and market upgrades) for 6 minutes means it's close to 1 extra villager minute for each villager you have. A villager produces e.g. 33w per minute (with gang saw), so if you're getting it first thing in an FF you're only looking at reso...

Very interesting. Cool to see new inventive builds like this coming up!
When you build the two TPs in transition to age 2, do you immediately put them on influence? If not, when do you think is the right time to switch them?

Re: AOE3 - Update 13.690 [New Civ Confirmed]
I tested this and it appears to be close to accurate. The age up progress bar goes a bit in bursts maybe due to however this is implemented. In practice I got 38 seconds to age II with 5 TP built on Central Plain, pretty close to the expected 36 seconds. I also tried finishing all 5 TPs shortly afte...

Looks like the -100f for Brits and the +100f for Sweden aren't actually in the released build. Between that and the livestock rates, maybe a hotfix coming in a few days? I don't think the new Roger's Rangers are that impactful. An age 2 shipment plus 800f to get 5 skirms? I think this is only worth ...
