Re: Introducing the "Play all Civs" challenge

Progress Update - Ottomans Week 16 with the Ottomans is completed. I played 34 games over the course of a little over a week, with a slightly positive win rate. I went age 2 in the majority of games, opening with double rax jan or jan/huss depending on the opponent's civ. Against very defensive opp...

Re: Update 47581

Looks like you have to click on the actual war chief standing there. Same for the African explorers if you have their skin.
I don't think there is a button anywhere so it's a bit hard to figure out.

Progress Update - Hausa Week 15 with the Hausa is completed. I played 30 games over the course of 2 weeks, one before the October patch and one after. My overall win rate was pretty even, positive in the first week but then slightly negative in the second as I tried to figure out age 2, FF, and sem...

Re: African civs post-nerf

I've been experimenting with a falc FF with Hausa when playing against civs that outboom in age 2 and are able to hold early pressure (e.g. Brits, Japanese). It goes roughly like this: First card is the 15% eco boost, sell cow for house and hunting upgrade, go up 12/20 with Songhai. In transition, k...

Re: Update 47581

Theorycrafting only, fast age into TC+warhut seems like trying to emulate Portuguese, only even more greedy. Fast age will probably get you to age 2 around the same time as a Ports 10/10 so you'll be 4 vils up, but they get 400w from aging plus whatever they decide to ship, while you get an extra wa...

Re: Update 47581

This sounds really cool. The age 1 changes to Hausa and Ethiopians could be just what was needed to bring them in line. I especially like the idea of going from 3 to 4 cattle but reducing the food on each, so the impact is greatest early on but less over time since 4 cattle gain resources from fatte...

Progress Update - Spanish Week 14 with the Spanish is completed. I played 28 games this week with an even win rate. Overall, Spain was fun and it felt like there were a number of strong strategies available depending on the map and matchup. The fairly standard European unit set helped as well so it...

Progress Update - Dutch Week 13 with the Dutch is completed. Due to non-gaming matters I played only 24 games this week with an even win rate. For most of the week, the main challenge was to figure out how much I could boom in a given matchup and when to build barracks/stable. In some matchups I we...

Re: Introducing the "Play all Civs" challenge

I have it in deck and I think I ended up using it and actually getting Westernization (upgrades all units to age 3, costs 350w 350c) twice. Thing is, I think it's only good if you have a shipment to spare in late age 2. Given the still pretty high cost, I don't think it's worth it in age 3. It proba...

Progress Update - Russians Week 12 with the Russians is completed. I played a bit over 30 games with a win rate around 60%, mostly due to regaining my rating after the previous week. This week started strong due to my rating being lower than usual and Russia apparently not being terribly difficult ...

Re: ESOC Throne Sponsorship?

Depends on what the sponsoring entails and who it's for. Regarding streaming content, I think the ESOC channel should continue to bring gameplay, casts, and related content for the AoE series. If a sponsor wants to see their game or other product played/discussed on stream then I don't think that's ...

Re: Public Update Preview - September Update

I don't see that Aztec change as a nerf. The unit cost has been reduced by 10% for an 8% HP reduction, no change in attack, and a tiny 2% siege decrease. I don't see any important breakpoints at 125 instead of 135 HP either. For example they still don't die to TC+tower and take the same amount of cr...

Progress Update - Portuguese Week 11 with the Portuguese is completed. I played a bit over 30 games with a win rate somewhere around 40%. Despite the poor win rate, this was a fun week. I found that I was terrible at booming under pressure, on water in general, and in the late game. These seem to b...

Progress Update - Inca Week 10 with the Inca is completed. I played a bit over 30 games with a win rate somewhere around 55%. The start of the week was rough, lots of losses to Hausa rushes since my build wasn't tight enough and I didn't fully understand what was coming yet. Once I figured out how ...

Just a quick update, the challenge is back on! I've done a bit more Japan last week and have now started with Inca. I'll probably do another stream later this week too.

Let me know if anyone wants to play a few games (1300-1500) or has some good advice!

Re: International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples

For my part, I appreciate the page and a half of civil discussion. It's given me some faith that this community isn't just toxic trolls and that formulating an opinion here can lead to some interesting discourse. Thank you for the opinions presented, it's been interesting. Maybe in the future we can...

Re: International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples

I'm from the south east Asia where I grew up poor (lucky to have 2 meals in a day) in the early 80s and basically lived in a much tougher conditions than most of the "oppressed" ppl in the western first world countries today. When my family were lucky enough to move to Australia back in t...

Re: International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples

As being part of the "minority" and having grew up in harsh conditions, I feel it's kind of patronising that some of the "white guilt" and "virtue signalling" that's conveyed makes it seem like there is something inherently different between humans based on your herita...

Thank you for the post u2123 . There is probably no point trying to reason with trolls or diehard colonial apologists, but for those willing to engage in meaningful debate, I'd like to raise a few points: Purpose and scope: The first sentence describes it as "shine a light on...

This is brilliant. They're kind of like teepees, except with debuff for the enemy instead of a buff. Teepees with crops around them.

Progress Update - Germans Week 8 with the Germans is completed. I played around 40 games with a win rate of about 45% and dropped 100 rating points in the process. As evidenced by the rating drop, this was the second civ (after Aztecs) that I really struggled with. It got a bit better towards the e...

Re: Top 10 reasons why DE is absolutely shit game

Do we really have to have this thread again?

You don't like the game, that's fine, go play something else. No point coming to a forum dedicated to a game you dislike and whining how you don't like it.
