Re: [Unofficial] [Civ rules] Poll about Autumn 2018

I think conquest mode (a common hearthstone format) could actually work really well. But the current system is fine too. Could you give a quick rundown of how that would work? Iirc you sign up with for example 5 civs and then you have to win a game with each to win a bo9. Once youve won with that c...

Re: Has anyone ever been to an esports event?

I aint gonna respond to your wall of text, but respond to the thread title. Yes, I was at the homestory cup last year. It's pretty much a starcraft2 lan party between pros, but viewers can chill at the same area and talk to pros. Zest is best! Did you have a friend that came with you? Or did you go...

Re: What would AOE3 look like if it had a serious pro scene?

Maybe the discussion should be more about how different AoE3 would look at the highest level if it was large enough to have a competitive scene; as whether or not AoE3 could even be an esport is too controversial. Although I find it funny that the people who say there's no chance AoE3 could ever be...

Re: What would AOE3 look like if it had a serious pro scene?

If you manage to grasp how good real esport players are, I think you inevitably conclude aoe3 has little potential as a real esport. Just imagine yourself but with 100 times the skill, and then wonder if the game isnt fully explored yet.

Re: What would AOE3 look like if it had a serious pro scene?

I feel like a lot of the people here are underestimating how much more there is to the game that's unexplored or ignored. I think only a few of the current top players would even be able to compete if the game had an actual pro scene. I feel like things like water and healers (maybe not trained, bu...

Re: What would AOE3 look like if it had a serious pro scene?

I just think that the aoe3 level is extremely low compared to the level of pros. Im an untalented gamer, and in my 'prime' I played maybe one hour per day on average if even that. I managed to take two games of a RO8 player and got to ro32 myself. Thats just an indication of how low the level is. Th...

Re: What would AOE3 look like if it had a serious pro scene?

If you see the level of sc2 pros and the degree of perfection you will severely doubt if aoe3 would be any fun anymore at that sort of level. Those players are beyond insane, they're like h2o in top form x100 on both a strategic and mechanical level. I dont think aoe3 would be very fun then. The ga...

Re: What would AOE3 look like if it had a serious pro scene?

Idk, I feel like at some point the game is so figured out that you could make some detailed write up that explains perfect play, which everyone will follow. And then it becomes only execution. Aoe3 probably doesnt have enough depth for it to be a huge esport.

Re: This Year's Autumn Tournament Will Use EP ELO

Yes activity and community size matter a lot. I don’t see why you need more than thirty games to prove you are better than 1000-2000 people. But that isnt the point is it? The point is that an ELO system were all users have very few games is inaccurate. Especially if the player amount is small. For...

I mostly meant in aoe3. I dont play much partially because I dont see any reason to improve anymore. It just seems to make the game worse.

Re: Behavioral Economics and AoE3

Yea, improving in RTS games means you get a better knowledge, which is rewarding. 1. Not to everyone 2. Not necessarily rewarding enough compared to simply winning 3. Not necessarily more rewarding than watching a movie 4. In aoe3 not even desirable, because the better you get the more uncreative t...

Re: Behavioral Economics and AoE3

Discovering the game IS improving at it. Improving is the process of learning to understand something. Understanding things is rewarding, at least to me. You as an aspiring scientist should be able to relate. If you were a scientist you'd know reaching understanding isnt necessarily a worthwhile pr...

Re: Behavioral Economics and AoE3

In aoe3 I honestly avoid playing people that are much better than me. But that's exactly what prevents people from improving. I'd say that overall I don't really care about losing (or not at all), I care about people knowing I lost. Why would you want to improve? In aoe3, I dont. Improving means it...

Re: Behavioral Economics and AoE3

Though isnt one of the big problems of competitive gaming this exact problem? Its one of the reasond why I like playing vs ai. I was even thinking, with the rise of very good AI, it would be possible to create a ladder where all human players have a >50% winrate. The other solution is to throw a bun...

Re: Behavioral Economics and AoE3

Or I guess why do people enjoy gambling? It's objectively a negative sims game but not necessarily. There's the psychological thrill you could "get lucky" so people like the experience even expecting to walk out with less. So is AoE3 betting too? Theres a general thrill of playing aoe3. I...

Re: Official 2018 FIFA World Cup Thread

I think the rules need a revamp actually. Teams and players are too professional and have found many 'bug abuses' that are really OP. Suggestions to change it: 1) True playing time. Delaying is way too effective, even extra time fails to account for it. Play 30 minutes twice, with the clock only ru...

Re: How long does it take to regain skills?

It depends. I 'regain' skill more quickly if I have been playing other games that involve a mouse, as my mouse accuracy won't be rusty then. It also depends on what level you're talking about. For me, the mechanical level of skill is pretty mediocre so it only takes a handful of games to feel okay. ...

Re: What's aoe2 like?

Im a bit weary to accept aoe3's what if conclusion. Its a great game but ultimately has extreme flaws that'd have posed serious problems even if the game was well supported. First we need to note that aoe3 didnt do too well even when it still received support. But secondly, I feel like aoe3's gamep...
