Re: European politics
On your actual point, it's not clear why would a handful of NATO members closing a treaty with Ukraine have any legal effect of transferring NATO-guaranteed security to a non-member. France or the UK cannot engage or transfer NATO security guarantees to other non-members by signing separate treatie...

Re: European politics
I see your point on copying Putin's move of putting Ukraine under nuclear protection. It's just that I don't think that this is even necessary. On the one hand, NATO membership is very difficult to achieve (all members have to agree, even Turkey and Hungary). On the other hand, a simple defensive tr...

Re: European politics
Article 5 is not optional. But taking Ukraine into the NATO is. If defending Ukraine in this conflict is the only real purpose of getting her into NATO, then it's a stupid idea. We can already defend Ukraine if we want. What we have is a simple situation. Either we want to defend Ukraine, then we ca...

Re: European politics
Ukraine doesn't need to be accepted to NATO for NATO countries to intervene in the war. The Charter of the United Nations allows any single country or alliance of countries to intervene on the side of a country under attack. The point of western intervention is not about NATO but only about willingn...

Re: European politics
In contrast to Iran or Russia, China has been completely transformed towards the exploitation of the labor of the masses. Striking was forbidden in many western countries too, when industrialization began. The US has many infamous examples of striking coal miners (and the like) who were violently su...

Re: European politics
I don't really see the point for Putin of doing any kind of nuclear strikes. The entire (wrong) narrative of the war is that Russia takes back provinces that historically belong to Russia including a number of Russian citizens residing there. Nuclear strikes, be it tactical or strategic ones, would ...

Re: European politics
The British rollercoaster continues. It's a spectacle to see the UK consistently getting the worst alternative in the most important political position only to end up in a huge mess with exactly nothing being fixed for society but a whole bunch of new problems arising.

Re: US Politics Megathread
They were telling this to themselves already anyway. At some point, you just gotta address realities. Biden can be assumed to want to have a legacy. He can only achieve a positive one if he manages to keep the US alive and finds himself on the right side of history by publicly addressing the obvious...

Re: European politics
I meant that the effect of fans pushing air on someone who needs to thermoregulate is similar to the effect of natural wind on the same. I didn't mean to imply they are similar physical phenomena. They obviously aren't Ah sad, otherwise these "fan" things that you are talking about could ...

Re: European politics
I meant the media Cometk quoted. One way to solve this could be fans. Fans can basically create an artificial wind inside a room and they use a lot less electricity than AC units. Even a 10W fan can be quite powerful at full speed. AC units also need maintenance, you need to fill them up with gas a...

Are you actually doing work at that temperature? I found that my concentration drops when it's anything above 28 C, and I really don't want to move and do chores when it's above 30 C. Also how is the humidity there? Over here it is probably a bit on the higher side, which makes hot weather more unb...

Re: European politics
The recent weeks were quite hot in the Ruhr Area and my home office room gets a lot of light/heat from 1pm on. It was 30-35°C for weeks in the room. Still, I don't think about buying an AC. I have a fan directed at me and drink iced coffee. Maybe it's also a question of habits. If you have an AC at ...

Re: European politics
I'm confused. Hydrogen is a medium for energy, not energy in itself. What hydrogen infrastructure are we talking about? At the end of the day, something needs to actually produce energy. Either burning fossil fuels, using sunlight, using wind or using gravity (hydro). I agree about hydrogen though,...

Re: European politics
Germany need to fuel their atomic facilities. Then there will be no energy crises. And nobody will need Russian gasssss Thats not really correct. Even if Germany extended the lifetime of its nuclear power plants, an energy crisis would still occur. This is due to two facts. Firstly, the nuclear pow...

Idk, maybe she was sober, but getting drunk as the lead executive of a country (that borders a warring Russia) isn't necessarily a good idea. You should be ready to make important decisions in sudden crises 24/7. If you want to party do it without alcohol or find a less important job imho There is ...

I believe their musketeers are actually using the same unit in the protoy, but Russia has a shadow-tech applied at the start of the game to make them weaker and cheaper . You might have more luck looking in techtreey, but I'm not sure what it would be called You can see this being the case also whe...

This is imo better done in aoe2. Cheap and fragile palisades, finite water res and fish traps to avoid fishing boats from becoming entirely useless. I have no idea how devs came up with the idea to make whales infinite resources. It's far from a straight forward decision.

The reason why China probably wants to make some bold moves on Taiwan is because the CCP will have a major congress in November, when they're going to hold new elections for a leader. And Xi needs to present a very strong profile at the congress, based on the achievements checked during the Covid c...
