I think @iNcog actually has a youtube series like that, but IIRC it may be geared towards beginner RTS players.

It's fine to feel that way, but the game has undergone a lot of changes since its release—including the addition of new civilizations—so I'm interested in whether these are recent opinions or not.

Not that the game is necessarily more fun, but it is different from when it was newer.

Out of curiosity, has anyone here actually tried the game in the last 6 months?

Shouldn't qualifiers also be random? Otherwise people will be able to figure out who is who much more easily.

(this is also why there should be a lower bracket so unfair seeding isn't as big of an issue)

Wouldn't that be because one is easier than the other? The biggest inhibitors for cheating OTB is that it's harder to do, easier to get caught, and less anonymous compared to cheating online.
