as we near release and enter the streaming event, post your thoughts and your first impressions. not counting the open beta threads since I wasn't interested during the open beta but im interested now and this thread has the word Official in it.

1) what kind of competitive RTS launches without customizable hotkeys
2) should score be shown during game?
3) does the game have micro?
4) does it look like cash of clans? (hera take)
5) basically I have no idea what any civ bonuses are, kinda looking for a text-based TL;DW of every aussie_dronglow vid
6) GUA #1 (beat Daut, Hera and smashes Jordan)
7) spearmen are good for their cost?
8) facebook gaming elegiggle is anyone actually gonna watch that shit

AOE 4 is currently number 20 on twitch by viewer count (more than New World and Blizzard games).

The only way to watch recorded games is to go to someone's profile, unless they have set their profile to private, in which case you cannot watch their recorded games. You cannot download and upload recorded games. This seems problematic for tournament-related purposes.

1)idk prolly no RTS it's a shame
2)Many people are liking the fact that no score is shown since it's a morality booster (score is visible only in observer mode while spectating)
3)Doesn't look like intense micro (more of a macro/strategy game)

FWIW since I only played in one beta and I haven't been paying much attention since.

1) This is probably the first one in like two decades
2) No score is good imo

6) There was a top player list where like AoM and CG AoeO players were all taking up the top 5. SoldieR was also in the top 25. I think a lot of those guys have a lot of experience in multiple RTS games so it kinda makes sense.

AOE4 just seems like something for AOE2 players.

1) brood war. Back in my day we had to reach across the entire keyboard to hit "p" for probe. "s" for select larva, i.e. zerg's most important button was also "s" for stop, so occasionally you'd stop a group of drones from working instead of selecting larva and there was no idle villager hotkey to find out you did that. I hate zoomers.

No custom horkeys is dumb indeed. Everything else is fine. Hidden score is weird tho for an aoe game. I guess there is still the kill landmarks winning condition so it makes sense.

Why does the art and gfx look so much butter on the ESOC stream than on any other channel?! Colors seem so much more vibrant. Other streams look washed out.

Anyway first thing that strucks me is that maps are incredibly dictating in how the game gets played.

I don't get this - as a non coder I have the impression that programming re mappable keys should be elementary. Anyone with expertise want to say if that is the case or is there a legitimate technical reason this may be hard to implement? The only reason I can see is that they might have hard coded the mapping, but surely that can't be what's happening here.

I was thinking that he might have cranked up the vibrance setting, that's why it looks so colourful.
