What features of AoE3 would you add to AoE4?
My question is, what special things and characteristics that AoE3 brought us would you put in AoE4?
Personally, I would add only 3 things.
-Treasures with guardians.
-A less minimalist UI or HUD like AoE3 (speed, armor and positive or negative bonuses of each unit), showing all the data when clicking the unit or building.
-Production of units in batches. I think going back to the old 1-in-1 build system is mostly to please other rts players, but let's be honest, batch production is the future.

Natives, herdable hunts, infinite resources via estates, micro'able fights and a good UI because current one is garbage.

Snare mechanic to actually punish opponents for mistakes.
Team maps that don't have the size of fucking 4v4 large Saguenay.
And yeah it would be also cool to have some sort of clean micro.

Batch training and shipments, clean ui with explicit multipliers for units stats.
ESOC : came for the game, stayed for the drama.

I wanted Aoe4 to be Aoe3 but in the atomic era+modern era timeline.
Snare mechanic should be there but shouldn't punish your entire group of 30 units. Only the actually snared units should be snared.

Re: What features of AoE3 would you add to AoE4?
-UI
-Hotkeys
-Good hit boxes and units that feel good to micro
-Explorer/hero unit: khan was cool but for every civ
-Map differences: I think the way they differentiate maps in aoe3 is almost perfect, changing layout and resource allocation and not much more. Meanwhile aoe2 changes too much and sc2 changes too little in their maps. Aoe4 took more after aoe2 here and has stuff like warring islands which feels obnoxious
-More interesting and unique tech trees for each civ (not necessarily something like home city)
-More interesting and unique unit sets: they kind of already did this but not well imo. Meanwhile aoe3’s TAD civs nailed this.

France, HRE and England are way too similar to each other. I'd rather have a single civ called The Crusaders or something, like they did with the Abbasids.
Re: What features of AoE3 would you add to AoE4?
- 5-unit batch training
- fast aging, at least once
- shipment point and cards, but the deck could be smaller like under 15 cards
- make those mountains lower, no need to make the camera jump up when you cross them
- real herdable hunts
- unit damage model needs to reward individual micro, so you can get skillshots unit vs unit
- artillery needs to unpack faster and the animation needs to not look like it's turning a bikeshed into a catapult
- all those bright guidelines that keep showing around the map need an option to hide them
- bring back real trading posts on a trading route, the patrician way to have trade in a game (market and dock trading are gay)
- good maps, AOE3 had a few original good ones
- UI in which units have their own image icons so you see something figurative, not some generic outline
- training and shipment queues
- less useless stuff, like relics, sites whatever, those are boring and take too much screen space when they notify you about objectives
- only one type of wall that is upgradeable, no need for two
- one type of farm/mill
- plantations
- more types of herdables, not just sheep
- shortcut keys for every command and option to customise them

Re: What features of AoE3 would you add to AoE4?
One of the most satisfying things in AoE3 was seeing units fly through the air after being hit by a cannon ball. I don't know if that's in AoE4 (I've yet to see it any video), but if it isn't, it should be.

Yea and it's not that hard to do with landmark systeme, when you chose a specific landmark, you chose the "sub civ" at the time. HRE and France was litteraly the same things before 1100 in term of everything so it's super hard to make asymetry between them, and right now HRE have the worst knight of the game which is a little weird ^^Djigit wrote:France, HRE and England are way too similar to each other. Read the topic title again. "What features of aoe3 would you add to aoe4?"gibson wrote:Seems like everyone just wants aoe4 to be aoe3 xD
Naturally, everything suggested here is gonna be a feature from aoe3, duh!
Now if they asked "What features would you like to see added in aoe4?" and all answers were only aoe3 features.. now that would be a different case
Re: What features of AoE3 would you add to AoE4?
Theres a difference between saying a feature and listing everything thats different about aoe4 lolaaryngend wrote:Read the topic title again. "What features of aoe3 would you add to aoe4?"gibson wrote:Seems like everyone just wants aoe4 to be aoe3 xD

Re: What features of AoE3 would you add to AoE4?
Combat in aoe3 is just ridiculously good. Snare, the elaborate but very hard counter system, the way that artillery battles work with packing and unpacking, and the way that micro can be extremely impactful, all set aoe3 apart.
Re: What features of AoE3 would you add to AoE4?
I’m envisioning a hybrid aoe3 - aoe4 game that has aoe3 civs and aoe3 units, snare, and combat system, but aoe4 eco with vill drop points, no vill cap, and no shipments. I would play the shit out of that game and I think it would be the most popular rts ever
