Adding past patches to Launcher
Hi
Not so much a technical support issue but a hopeful request.
Is it a difficult endeavor to add previous patches to the launcher as options? In particular, rts-sanctuary FP 1.2 (@Garja), and / or TAD 1.01a. Regarding FP1.2, I cannot even install it using the rts-sanctuary installer due to my game being on steam (the rts-sanc installer does not recognise).
Am trying to go through some old classic rec games but can't with EP or TAD 1.3 :(

The EP already has this feature! Load up the EP launcher and press tools and then recorded games recognition.

I don't think it works with the FP 1.2

Just wait for AOE3: DE . VP will be the official patch there.

@EAGLEMUT
I think the problem is we have no way to recognize that the rec was played on a particular 3rd-party patch. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I'd expect recs of all those patches just look the same as RE.
Re: Adding past patches to Launcher
I don't know what the rec tool exactly looks at when deciding which patch is it. Old fan patches simply had some different game files but not an explicit "tag" to make them different from the official patch.
Re: Adding past patches to Launcher
It currently looks at version number of the game executable (which is saved in recs). For EP we keep it up to date with patch version, but other patches probably had no reason to change this from the original RE value.

Re: Adding past patches to Launcher
Can we not do a lookup of a unit stat for example we know is unique to a patch? Eg - if Jan HP =X
Re: Adding past patches to Launcher
No, the recorded game file has no knowledge of this, it is a very small file containing just basic general information and the commands to execute. Jan HP is gonna depend on whatever patch you open the rec with; and make the rec go OOS once it turns out a dead jan is supposed to walk somewhere, but it already died due to lower HP than in the source game (for example).

Is it then possible to load old patches through the launcher, where we can select the desired patch?
Re: Adding past patches to Launcher
It is probably possible, but it seems like a lot of trouble for little gain. We would have to implement this functionality into the launcher, bloat its interface and the EP download size (by including entire 3rd-party patches in multiple versions) and then the user would anyway need to know exactly what patch he must select for his particular rec file. At that point, the user might rather just install the actual patch he needs and be done with it. Furthermore, the relevance of recs played on years-dead old fan patches seems a bit questionable to me - I wouldn't expect the demand for this feature to be very high.
Re: Adding past patches to Launcher
I think rts sanctuary autorecognize on what patch the rec was played on, so they might have set a version number in their recs, got to be verified.

In that case, do you know how I can install FP 1.2 on the steam version of AOE3?
