Bug: cant select units

I just went to play the EP, and when I start a game and try to move vils or my explorer or select units I am unable to, I cannot left click on any unit or right click with a unit selected although I can still navigate the menus and select units with hotkeys. I was playing on the normal patch last night and it was working fine, this must be from the EP.

I haven't played the EP for a few weeks as the launcher wasn't working so today I reinstalled it, then loaded it up and it prompted me to perform a repair first with the patch utility, I did this, and now I am getting this bug.

I also tried to play on the normal patch after and now I have this bug there too, which means I'll have to reinstall AOE3 I think. I have uninstalled the EP and restarted my computer and still this bug is present on the normal patch. I'd rather not reinstall AOE3 as it takes a while and then I have to spend ages reapplying all my hotkeys.


Any help would be appreciated, has anyone heard of this bug before?

I had a camera bug once, although U can actually back up your hotkey files...

Edit: not sure if this exist but Can you actually map the hotkey for selecting units to be left click? if so that may be the problem

Edit: not sure if this exist but Can you actually map the hotkey for selecting units to be left click? if so that may be the problem

On your edit, selecting units is left click normally, but I can also not give orders or set rally points (right click), and I haven't been into my hotkey settings for months, also I don't think you can even do that.

Meanwhile, follow these instructions:

Go to the installation of the game:
32 Bits:
Steam: C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\Age Of Empires 3\bin\
No-Steam: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Age Of Empires 3\

64 Bits:
Steam: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Age Of Empires 3\bin\
No-Steam: C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Age Of Empires 3\

Go to the folder "Startup"
and extract this file attached.
Use "Extract Here" (WinRar), will ask to replace some files, click "Yes to All"

You are welcome!
No need, might help someone in the future

This problem was given to the fact you are using custom hotkeys, specifically:
"map ("mouse1down", "specialpower", "uiSpecialPowerAtPointer");"
If you remove this specific command of files: game.con, gamex.con & gamey.con
You can play quietly on EP
Or you can also do not install this hotkeys/wait EP update
