Usually you send all permanent export shipments with the -40% export card (Good Faith Agreements) in nr40. Then you have only enough export (~2000) to send one of the big export armies + mm, when you are @199 population. idk if sth is different on the nr-patch, but then you can't have more than 200+mm units, when you want to play this. It's probably only viable if you want to suprise a player. One hatamoto costs 290 export - you won't get a lot or have to play without upgrades (probably too bad)

There is the "gold to less export" card that can be used to spam lots of hatamoto, but I am not sure how you would use that in a competitive match. Perhaps it can be used in a flank and not on a map like oricono.

Feels like yamabushi are stronger though. Not a lot of civs have pikemen past veteran, and considering how popular Huamnicas are, they are probably great.
Pay more attention to detail.
Re: Hatamoto treaty japan
You can gather lots of coin and then send the coin to export trade to spam around 150-200 hatamotos. But thats very all in and easily scouted (opponent just needs to look at your deck to see the trade). And if the opponent knows what you’re doing hes just gonna spam musk/skirm/cannons to beat it easily.
Though it might work on lower levels and give you a few free wins vs Lts.
But huamincas arent exactly pikes, they’re fast with good melee damage and hp while pikes have low damage with low hp and are slower (better multiplier vs cav tho).

The very first treaty game I ever played back in 2014 was vs a Japan that did this hatamoto build, some magiksword guy was playing. I didn't know what hm me or nb was..tbh I didn't even know blockade existed.. and naturally my opponent was pretty pissed. good ol days
