Re: Ports
cass goons organs/horse culvs towers + nats.
Re: Ports
Halbs are shit, you don't even need to upgrade them. Imo, Cassa/Goons/Mortars are you best units which you can combine with organs/horse art/culvs/musk situationally.
Whatever is written above: this is no financial advice.

What about the meat shield?

Re: Ports
You could use musketeers situationally as meat shields. They also benefit from the same upgrade cards which you might use for cassa anyway. Let's do a comparison, assuming cards and AA have been sent.
Imp. Guerreiro Musketeer (with cards): 75f/25c for 375hp/58dmg/33melee (*3 vs cav) + .2 melee resistance
Imp. Halberdier: 50f/70c for 420hp/50dmg (*2 vs cav) + .1 melee resistance
As you see, the halb is ~30% more costly (coin gathers slower than food), but neither his melee attack (vs cav) nor his melee hp (lower resistance) is better than the imp. guerreiro ones. At the same time, the Guerreiro does a lot more dmg himself, since he can fire from range.
Hussars can be added as situational unit. Depending on how much walling happened, hussar can be ineffective. On the other hand, they can be used as meat shields as well. It depends. They are certainly not as useful as cassa/goon/mortar.

Re: Ports
It depends on the match up. But usually ports go quite heavy on artillery in treaty. Always 1 or 2 of these 50 range mortars, some organs and culvs obviously. You don't make halbs cause they suck, but you can go musks (they're actually 2nd best musks after brit musks, difference being the church card). Iirc it's anyway a mix of cassas musks goon huss, but again it depends on the match up. Also depends if you go nats or not and which nats you have, cause for example with the incas you won't need to make much anti cav.

Re: Ports
up to the MU. Usually I mass a lot of cassadors and organs, with enough musketeers and nats for meatshield and 10 goons in the back to focus down cav. Ports don't have the best hand cav so you must figure another way to win. Usually it is artillery superiority while using long range mortars to destroy enemy building foundations when they rebuild.

Re: Ports
In general, 10-15 goons, 5-10 Huss, rest cass/art, and mix musk vs melee civs.

Do you really make goons as Port?
