Re: ESOC SPRING GRAND FINALS DISCUSSION THREAD!
I don't think you can be sure the same will not happen with BlackStar_OP! Who saw that coming then...

Neither vetoed Indonesia! This might be the first series this tournament we finally see that map. Meanwhile high plains was vetoed, the 5 TP high hunt map. Very interesting indeed.

Re: ESOC Spring Tournament — grand finals discussion!
I think LordRaphael and BSOP are simply confident in their aztec mirror skills. What do you guys expect in terms of civs?
1) Mendocino
This map lends itself for ATP play, so Ports and Spain can be solid picks. In situations like these, I think we might just end up seeing a mirror. Maybe we will see a Dutch mirror (it would disappoint me), which seems relatively popular. On the other hand I think Raphael will feel like he can beat Dutch with other civs and might try that more, and I think BSOP will switch away from dutch then. I dont really know what civs BSOP really likes to play atm, he seems to think Otto is great at least.
2) Florida
I think we're going to see france or Germany here. LordRaphael loves both civs and the other maps are no TP maps (for some unknown reason). He may even play France or Germany in game 1 too. I'd predict we're likely seeing otto come out of BSOP in one of these too games, for similair reasoning. Otto vs Germany might be a rather likely match up on counterpick if bsop loses game 1, or Otto vs France if bsop wins game 1.
3) Thar Desert
A no TP map, India or Japan might be solid picks for BSOP. Brits are surely something lordraphael will consider as a primarily euro civ player. Maybe lordraphael will opt for russia. There's some potential for Dutch for either player, if the match up lends itself for that, but I'd personally find a first pick dutch risky here. I could see BSOP first pick Dutch and lordraphael counter it with Russia, or lordraphael first picking british or russia into BSOP's india.
4) Indonesia
Aztec mirror is extremely likely. The one that gets to first pick here has a slight advantage because there aren't real counter civs here. Maybe Ports will come out too as a solid water civ. British is also a water civ to consider.
5) Gran Chaco
Again, no TPs, so you can basically copy paste the scenario at #3. This will again be the same first pick, so the good first pick civs are rather limited. At this point it seems like the mappool clearly favors the one that first picks in game 2 and game 4, so that'd be the winner of game 1.
6) Herald Island
This is where the civs reset. There will be 4 TP maps from here on out, which means the France, Germany and Otto picks are harder to predict. First picking France becomes dangerous, as Dutch (a civ both players like) is in my eyes a solid counterpick to france, so with the civ reset I expect lordraphael at least will strongly consider germany. BSOP really likes his otto so he might first pick otto. That means we're looking at the same scenario as on florida, where we will either get germany vs otto or france vs otto.
7) Bonnie Springs
This map is slightly odd, a little bit low on hunts. I find it hard to predict anything here.
8) Manchuria
This map is an awesome india map for all the yaks one can obtain, and I could definitely see bsop strongly consider india here. I am not sure if lordraphael will opt to play anything livestock related. He would probably counter india by picking Dutch, as he seems to like that, although I could also see him pick aztec into india.
9) Kamchatka
The most standard map to close it out. At this point it really depends on what civs are left. The amount of hunt makes current top civ british a very interesting pick, and maybe india is out of the pool for bsop after manchuria, which would make british an extremely solid first pick. If france or Germany is left for rapha, I can definitely see him pick those, as those are clearly his favorite civs.

Re: ESOC Spring Tournament — grand finals discussion!
Apparently Jerom spent more time predicting than bs & rapha did practicing.

And Jerom said he didn't want to do writeups anymore

Not really. I think Raph showed a lot of smart play throughout the finals with maybe a couple of questionable civ picks. He definitely showed himself capable though.
