I have a new proposal to add: make it possible to have more than 2 teams, so you could have like a 2v2v2v2 just like in AoE2.

Also, try to post first post on Age of Empires official forums, I doubt they check here.

I dont know how it was actually done but i have played in some scenarios that allow for 2v2v2v2

On EP it is already possible to select up to 4 teams or have full on diplomacy in games.

Orl'y? Is this available in scenarios or in any kind of game modes? Because I suppose it needs triggers in the map script to create alliances.
There's also that hidden diplomacy UI gadget in the game, but afaik its functions don't work anymore.

It's a trigger-emulated version of diplomacy that uses the diplomacy UI as a base but overlays the old buttons with new UI buttons that function via xs injection. (as it turns out, diplomacy triggers auto sync, same as tribute triggers)

The functions do actually work without having to do the xs injection, but it's troublesome to toggle the setting that makes it functional, as there is no known way to toggle it in-game and it has to be done by manually editing a specific file.

Is it a value in one of the user profile XML files that toggles this diplomacy functionality and makes the in-game gadget work too?

The extra teams are not trigger-based and available everywhere. Diplomacy is partially trigger-based, reuses that UI window you're thinking of (with polish), and is possible to activate in scenarios (Tiny FFA has it). I will probably attempt to port diplomacy into a more native feature for the next EP release.

That's neat. Never thought this was a finished game feature, so I thought that's why they left it out in the shipped game.
