Hello, and welcome! There are some excellent resources listed over on the ESOC Strategy Wall.
I would probably start with Interjection's Tips and Tricks video series on YouTube :flowers:

I'd suggest you to find a coach. We have a few warm hearted mentors in our community, helping low level players to get started.

Please PM @princeofkabul

Hi I'm a pretty good player who enjoys the satisfaction of helping newcomers.

You can message me on ESO at "Fourmaster."

@kmesne hey! Sompu and Callen are just kidding don't worry, like eagle said you should really read some nicely written guides of civ you want to play with and watch some nice videos on Interjection's channel.

We should really make people read an intro to esoc memes when they sign up

PS: you can use the discord server to schedule games and find people to play with. Also streams that appear on the left hand side of the page are a good way to keep up with the community (sometimes you can even find a game in the stream chat) and can def teach you something here and there

Hi @kmesne. Welcome to ESOC, currently the biggest and best Age of Empires 3 community. It is also the place where you can ask for help and advice from active and passionate players who are willing to provide support to new players, probably a bit too passionate sometimes when they begin to volunteer other players like @princeofkabul, who is currently one of the best active players around.

Anyway, like I said, ESOC is a very active community and I am quite certain you could find at least a few players here (including myself) willing to help you improve, and it is probably a better idea to do so on our Discord server (https://discord.gg/0khRaPfhrkTKPpye) that has dedicated channels for finding games, asking for some quick advice, etc., while you can find strategy guides and videos under Strategy Wall on our website. As for practicing and improving yourself, it is probably a good idea to find yourself a few active training partners or even a coach above your level (and have decent amount of game knowledge and good mechanics) and play 1v1s with them on a regular basis - and even better if you can find some time to analyse the games with them afterwards. Set yourself a target, but also remember that ranks and ELO are not the most important things for you at the moment - getting the hang of game mechanics and knowledge, and being a solid player in general are more important at this stage.

Btw, it seems like you have already used the XP mod to turbo-level your home cities, but I would definitely recommend you do so again but with a TAD civ instead. At some point, you might want to install the ESOC patch and play with your friends. The patch contains a ton of quality-of-life improvements, bug fixes, new and better maps, as well as quite a number of balance changes; and you can still play on the official version of the game without having to worry about any technical complications, even with the community patch installed.

And again, welcome to the community. :flowers:

P.S.: Please feel free to send me a pm on Discord (or on ESO if I am online) - I am usually down for a few casual 1v1 games every now and then, but I am probably the worst player around... :hmm:

@everyone I mean, seriously, the joke of volunteering someone else is getting old and not really that funny anymore, nor should you really ask for rather expensive coaching fees in return. Anyway, this situation must be put to an end now. Any post from now on, across the board, that includes volunteering someone else (as a joke) and/or demanding coaching fees in return will be subject to moderation by the community team :!:

Not everyone knows he is your dormmate, and if he is, it is probably better to talk to him in private about it. 10 dollars per hour might be a bit expensive for some of us here, and definitely kind of a big investment for a new player (and feels a bit immoral, but that's probably just me).

What's wrong with asking for compensation for one's time? Some players would be perfectly fine paying for individual coaching by a high level player.

If you put it that way, then there's nothing wrong, but it just looks more like a scam and doesn't feel right to do so to a new player in public, without everyone knowing the context. Well, with the context provided, it is understandable but it would be better to do so in private. Anyway, let's not derail the thread due to some differences on moderation, and hope more players are going to volunteer themselves. :chinese:

It's an innocent joke which gets righted almost immediately. It's doing no harm. It's a part of what makes ESOC, ESOC.

For the sake of the thread: pick a civ, learn a few basic build orders and their given aims, watch streams or recs for basic match up information, and play the game to improve your mechanics.

With a good build order and decent macro and the mechanics to always be spending your resources you can improve quite fast. This is probably the standard for 1st lt play.

This must be a safe place

Please do not derail the thread again by commenting on the countermeasures taken by the community team or moderation in general. If you have a problem with the moderation, then SCC is probably a better place for further discussion. Further actions will be taken by the community team if it proves too difficult to stay on topic in this thread :!:
