Old player planning on getting back into AoE3
As the title reads, I used to play AoE3 extensively from Vanilla (got pretty high on that www.elorating.com website, which is dead now) all the way through the TAD release and I'm looking at getting back into it. I've just got some questions.
How is the community?
Is it still alive after all this time? When I played it would hit about 3000-4000 players.
How is the balance?
China were so stupidly broken when I played. I quit around the time Ottoman had their starting wood reshuffled into a mosque to make them less screwed on non Trading Post maps and less strong on maps with them.
I used to play France and Ottoman.
But yeah, also

Today, you'll see about 2000 players online.
Chine isn't op anymore, op civs are iro and otto, then india/sioux/japan.
France is a middle tier civ.

Almost everything you do is OP. Jan abus is the most common, and it''s OP becasue jans are OP and abus are OP. Abus outrange almost everything else in colonial, and they have 40 SIEGE damage so no unit has any resist vs them. ff is also really good because you start wih vet jans+falcs and then you get mamelukes which are insane. Even their FI and FR are OP if you can get away with them.genoooo wrote:What makes Otto so OP now then?

Nilla is full of maphackers and droptrickers. It has also seen a huge decline in number of active players in the past few months (they have all been moving to TAD).lordofbritian wrote:Why does Nilla suk, what makes TAD so much better?diarouga wrote:mostly jan/abus and ff.

I guess I have not given TAD much of a chance but it was too many changed I did not like, papist wrote:Nilla is full of maphackers and droptrickers. Just the fact that you can have 5 more cards in your deck and there are more civs and cards to use, makes it worth playing.

I will try out the game and give ti another chance, lets see how this goes!

Vanilla is just like aoe3 left behind. All the improvements to balance and the depth of the game just got paused in vanilla. It's really a horrible low skill game :/. Which is maybe part of the problem with aoe3 not being so popular.

I wouldn''t say low skilled but, I see what you are saying after I try out TAD a bit maybe I will see the light and why it is better!h2o wrote:Vanilla is just like aoe3 left behind. Aside from the Thoroughbreds card for France, I have yet to find one modified feature in TAD that I did prefer to its Vanilla counterpart.lordofbritian wrote:I guess I have not given TAD much of a chance but it was too many changed I did not like, papist wrote:Nilla is full of maphackers and droptrickers.
