Our next big tournament

Post by XeeleeFlower »

Would you like our next tournament to be at the end of the Weekend Tours (meaning that the tournament would start during summer) or would you like the tournament to start during fall?
Time is wise and our wounds seem to heal to the rhythm of aging,
But our past is a ghost fading out that at night it’s still haunting.

Ask the players. Players make the tournament.

More tournaments is definitely a good thing. They don't each need $5000 prize pools, though.

definitely summer. Its been super long since the last seasonal tournament. Might make people question future donations when their not seeing the expected tours.

I would say summer, because that;s when people are available. During the Fall, a lot of players can't participate because of school.

honestly, summer is like the worst time to play videogames. People don't want to stay inside the house when the weather is nice. Also idk about other people but I have exams in september which means increased studying requirements during summer.

just in case of global amnesia: ASC Summer 2015 was prolonged to mid-September due to players not being able to schedule properly due to... well, summer

People, keep in mind that the Weekly tournaments are a replacement for one (major) seasonal tournament. One weekly tournament is comparable with one seasonal tournament.

The summer is a time where people go on vacation, are not home or do other things since the weather is nice. Indeed, Summer 2015 is an example. Autumn/Fall is, in my opinion, the right moment for the next seasonal.

Not at all.
I agree that 3-4 one week-end tourneys can replace a seasonal tournament, but definitely not one.

that's what he meant. he meant one event, with multiple weekend tournaments and the finalists playing against each other. that all together = 1 big seasonal.

Wait. Is this "one or the other"? There should be both, in my opinion.

Looking forward to the event!

These are not replacement to the seasonal tournaments though

These are clearly replacements to seasonal tournaments.
That's not necessarily a bad thing though.
I think 2 seasonal tourneys/year are enough.

I think 1 per year is better.

They are not replacement to seasonal tournaments. I stand by it.

Or well could even be one per year.

What I'd like to see is a 16 player tourney, with players selected out of the tourneys of the year (a sort of league, where you'd get points depending on how far you go, and on the tournament: naturally, a seasonal should give more points than a one week-end standard tourney, which should give more points than a tourney with weird rules (TWC, starvation etc).
A sort of code S for those who know sc2.

the grand tour is sort of like a special event. it takes place in the same amount of time as a seasonal and has a similar total prizepool but it’s kind of its own thing. you could consider it a major tournament for those reasons however.

I think that there should be three big season tourneys a year: Fall, Winter, Spring.
These are what bring in the big ratings and players. Everything should be worked around the schedule of the big tournaments - not the other way around.

Then put all of the smaller and fun tournaments during the summer or on random weekends.

Exactly, we can't run both together. It's one or the other. One full Weekend tournament takes about the same amount of time as one Seasonal tournament. Therefore I said they are comparable.

In the future I'd like to see more varity of tournaments.

It seems Jim and potentially reality beg to differ, though.
