Esoc Patch v5 balance poll
Esoc Patch v5 balance poll
It's time again. The EP balance team would greatly appreciate your input.

The later questions are all optional, so if you have no opinion about something you can simply skip.
The poll is primarily for measuring perception on the current balance scale, but there are some extra questions because we want to know how the community feels about them. Poll results are no guarantee of things actually changing.
Feel free to use this thread to discuss.

The above link you'll have to copy paste because when I post it as a link it tries to auto-resolve it and it goes to shit.

You may need to use the link from the share button on the top right. Did that work?

Re: Esoc Patch v5 balance poll
Should do the poll after the tournament then no?
Re: Esoc Patch v5 balance poll
Yes i agree, personnally i can't answer to this poll before the tournament because atm i have no idea of balance improvement since last ep and I will have the same answers that last poll for ep4 and it will be useless i answer so.
Pretty sure it's same case for 95% of ep players.
Mainly because it's a big dead period for aoe cause of summer so not enough games played.
After the tournament, way more people would be able to have a better idea. players practice, tournament results show the trend etc...
Also i find this not really good for a tournament to show the result of the poll before the tournament start because people can be influence by the civ rating result and practise only the top civ.

well players' opinions on top civs is nothing secret
Re: Esoc Patch v5 balance poll
Why not both?Hazza54321 wrote:Should do the poll after the tournament then no?
It's interesting to see how people change their minds in the course of an event. It's also very valuable information. An important clue of a civ's position on the balance scale is how it changes from one poll to another, because trends like that are very likely to continue. Brit, for example, moved slowly upwards from poll to poll, without any changes, until it was on top.
Also, when people speculate they show where the bias is. Knowing where the bias is means we can avoid making changes based on it. This consideration has always been vital to our process. Making changes based on the whims of the community would have been detrimental. We'd end up with a patch that is different, but just as unbalanced as RE.
Another reason we did it now is that it helps us to know the answers to some of the questions in the second part of the poll sooner rather than later.
Re: Esoc Patch v5 balance poll
Before is good as long as you also do after. I see no downside to it, considering the format of the poll.

Re: Esoc Patch v5 balance poll
As long as people answer the poll before and after, then yeah it's the best. But I'm afraid some people won't bother to fill it again after the tourney.

There is no secret but you will see it doesn't help you to stand out which civ is the top civ because on a patch where civ are supposed to be balanced, there is so many differents opinion.
While a poll clearly show you the trend.
There is reason why civ choice in tourney have been very different than most of the opinion you can read on which civ is good or not, and match more to the poll result.

Re: Esoc Patch v5 balance poll
Yea France is underated.
I'd say that Sioux is rated as it should, Port might be slightly overated and Spanish slightly underated, but I'd say that overall it's quite accurate.

Re: Esoc Patch v5 balance poll
it's overall accurate, all values are very close. India is one of top but not so much probably
Actually Japan is incredibly underrated

Bishop told me RE Otto players go to hell.
Re: Esoc Patch v5 balance poll
Potentially we should nerf Indians prior to the tournament, if the current result more or less stands, to improve the quality of balance for the event.
Re: Esoc Patch v5 balance poll
No we shouldnt as current results are not indicative of real power of civs. And in general it's stupid to make balance decisions prior to tourneys based on poll when a reasonable number of voters could just troll the results.

Re: Esoc Patch v5 balance poll
I think the weekend tours already showed that india is a strong civ though

Re: Esoc Patch v5 balance poll
I think nerfing India a bit before the tournament will either make EP more balanced before EP, and/or give us a lot of information on how to change India after the tournament.
Re: Esoc Patch v5 balance poll
India is indeed strong and probably is the top civ because of the number of MUs they potentially win.
But on what exactly is the India nerf claim based?
Also what would you nerf? +20w houses again?

yes. That's also a good side-effect of those minor tournaments, to actually see what changes need to be done for a major tournament, but apparently we still do "testing" in autumn tournament
