could also be that some trolls have rekt the sites. and hiding off topics, did the rest :(
have to ask - why do you hide off topic to ppl browsing the site? why do you have to be a member to read it? its stupid imo

Re: where did the good discussins go?
well here is my conspirecy though; Gendarme was kicked out of the "team", and he has been trying to rek this site ever sinse; he do not watch stream mush, and he do not play much, but he colledted some trolls, Ashwin, Sargyan, Googol, and Sebnan12. These trolls make up 90% of the post now, cos most of the other ppl, who have opinions and thoughts they want to share. are drowned by these trolls. Well, that is my take on it anyways. you can agree, and make your voice heard here,. or be quiet forever, and let the esoc communety be ruled by trolls like this.

Re: where did the good discussins go?
@momuuu It may just be that after playing the game and talking about it on forums for close to ten years, one gets tired of it it, especially when they don't actively play it anymore. I think that in a game that is this old with no official support or marketing it's expected that its audience will naturally wane. The first paragraph from Bramboy here is really pertinent, in my opinion.
This response isn't helpful. It offers no explanation of the point. It's basically saying "Wait, you don't know? You don't feel the same way I do? Haha, that sucks."
Can you please point to specific examples where trolls derail serious discussion? Also, which users are you talking about when you say that their absence has left a void of good discussion? This would greatly help in understanding your perspective.

Re: where did the good discussins go?
You asked a lot of questions and made a lot of statements without much structure, but I am going to try to respond to all your points. You did post this thread in the wrong section, btw. Meta-posts about the community should be posted in ESOC talk. This section is meant for threads about Age of Empires 3.
Forums were a bit inactive during the summer and still are. I hope it picks up during tournament time and afterwards. You are welcome to contribute yourself.
Because it revolves around the community, not the game. Stuff like ESOC talk should be internal, because we promote us as an AoE3 forum primarily.
Nope. You can blame me if you want to blame someone, and it seems like you do. The Comm Team is responsible in principle, but in reality all staff and all members have a say in how things are done, even when you feel like nobody is listening to you. Fact is that it's 100% impossible to please everyone.
Gendarme is still here, indeed. And he is contributing. He also has friends on the forums, but calling those his followers seems like a stretch.
There is a dedicated board for it, actually. And there are only like 5-10 threads active at a time, so saying that it's 'flooded with trolls' is simply untrue.
I have seen India, Aztecs and China for sure. But what does this have to do with discussions on the forum?
Well, since we have only had a few streams, I would say that's a compliment. The quality of the games will improve as the tournamemt goes on, of couese.
Nope. The site is functioning as intended. If a troll would rek the site, we would notice.
Besides the point but still: the dev team has made a lot of improvements last weeks/months and they are in great shape right now. I wish that would be appreciated more.
See answer above.
Sounds like good drama, but not what happened. Please report posts you think ruin the site, or PM any Comm Team member. I don't think publicly complaining and blaming helps.

Why is off-topic down to members online?

Do we have a dictator queen in charge of it?

I don't know if the game could be more than European civs only.
I have seen India, Aztecs and China for sure. But what does this have to do with discussions on the forum?
Besides a few exceptions, the tournament is boring.

Some trolls rekt the site and are hiding off-topic.

Gendarme was kicked out of the staff, has tried to rek the site ever since and collected some trolls.

To be fair to Spanky... It is not easy to make sense after a bottle of moonshine.

But then why exactly was ESOC booming with activity in 2015 still (aoe3 being 10 years old back then) and why did it seemingly die out today? It's hard to explain. On the one hand I think enthousiasm for a forum like this might slowly die out over the years. On the other hand I am afraid ESOC has itself to blame. ESOC never had a vision for its forum, tried to please everyone and didn't truly succeed in that. Most importantly I think ESOC failed to create (or maintain) an environment where an average aoe player, interested in the game and how it works, would feel inclined to join ESOC. The management and flooding of off topic and the facilitating of uninterested trolls surely hasn't helped in that regard. So, as far as I can tell, ESOC did create a userbase in the beginning, but due to maybe poor management of it, the influx of new members has been very low and old members slowly left or became less active. The result is that now the good discussions (and honestly all discussions) are fading. It's too bad, but fortunately it has been a good run.

there never really were any good discussions here tbh. it's just fake news.
Re: where did the good discussins go?
Why does people keep saying that ESOC management is poor?
On a different note, how big are the cash prizes in AoE2 and where does that money come from?
If anybody know.

Re: where did the good discussins go?
Spanky has been trying to rek this game ever since she was banned from the forum for 24h. She doesn't donate much and she doesn't contribute much to off-topic discussions, but she collected some money and gave it to the AoE2 community. The prize pool of the AoE2 tournaments consist to 90% of Spanky's money.

mainly from donations just like in aoe 3. But theres also a bit of corporate money around. But its really mostly more and bigger donations for aoe 2. Theres one guy who donated like 60 k or more to various aoc streamers and events.
