Where did the good discussions go?

Forums were a bit inactive during the summer and still are. I hope it picks up during tournament time and afterwards. You are welcome to contribute yourself.

Why is off-topic down to members online?

Because it revolves around the community, not the game. Stuff like ESOC talk should be internal, because we promote us as an AoE3 forum primarily.

Do we have a dictator queen in charge of it?

Nope. You can blame me if you want to blame someone, and it seems like you do. The Comm Team is responsible in principle, but in reality all staff and all members have a say in how things are done, even when you feel like nobody is listening to you. Fact is that it's 100% impossible to please everyone.

Gendarme and his followers are still here.

Gendarme is still here, indeed. And he is contributing. He also has friends on the forums, but calling those his followers seems like a stretch.

There is no room for us to spawn our points.

There is a dedicated board for it, actually. And there are only like 5-10 threads active at a time, so saying that it's 'flooded with trolls' is simply untrue.

I don't know if the game could be more than European civs only.

I have seen India, Aztecs and China for sure. But what does this have to do with discussions on the forum?

Besides a few exceptions, the tournament is boring.

Well, since we have only had a few streams, I would say that's a compliment. The quality of the games will improve as the tournamemt goes on, of couese.

Some trolls rekt the site and are hiding off-topic.

Nope. The site is functioning as intended. If a troll would rek the site, we would notice.

Besides the point but still: the dev team has made a lot of improvements last weeks/months and they are in great shape right now. I wish that would be appreciated more.

Why do you have to be a member to read it?

See answer above.

Gendarme was kicked out of the staff, has tried to rek the site ever since and collected some trolls.

Sounds like good drama, but not what happened. Please report posts you think ruin the site, or PM any Comm Team member. I don't think publicly complaining and blaming helps.
So move it, you silly ESOC moderator.

On a different note, how big are the cash prizes in AoE2 and where does that money come from?
If anybody know.
$500 and not Goodspeed are the answers, respectively.

Can you please point to specific examples where trolls derail serious discussion? Also, which users are you talking about when you say that their absence has left a void of good discussion? This would greatly help in understanding your perspective.

you could just click on their names, then you get to a page where you can view their last posts. 90% of them are pure non sense imo.

I also think that ppl stop making threads here, in hope of a good and fair discussion - Its not possible when these guys will post stupid comments or try to derail any thread. After experiencing this over the last 2 years, it should be commen knowlegde to most users by now.

Sometimes I care about this, but most of the time I have just resigned (like most other ppl, it seems like). The trolls won :kinggreen:

I would say that forums have been increasingly inactive over the last 1 - 2 years. I did contribute a lot before, but now it seems not worth my effort anymore, cos every thread will very soon, be make a moccary off, and derailed in to something completely arbitrary.

About the off topic section being tampered with, so it should not be so available or interesting, many times now? Well, its working, cos its ruined imo. That is not only because of the trolls, but it is also prolly something that the admins wanted? Well you got it, and with that gone, the forums are not very attractive anymoreto many ppl, including myself.

Sorry for my remark on Queen being a dictator, That was not called for, and I do think she do a hell of a job with administration of the tournament, and casting.

About the games/tournament; I do find it increasingly boring, with most ppl playing Brits, Germany, Dutch, and a random Portugal and Russia, and mostly they use the same "meta". You are right, there is some very few games with china, India and Aztecs.
There are also some civs that are almost never played!!
I just feel that we have seen these games before, over and over again.
When we also experience that many ppl choose the same civs on the same maps, its also contributing to make the games predictable and boring. This is my personal experience with the games thus far, and you do not have to agree.

You close your argument with saying I should report posts? I have done in the past, but frankly, I cannot be bothered anymore. It should be easy for you to just watch these ppls latest posts.
I mean, there should be room for posting things that are not on the topic, sometimes. But when it happenes most of the time, the result is what we have now: A site that is not active anymore, no discussions, almost nobody bother to make threads that are not very spesific to the game/tournament.

Whereas watching Sioux making BR's is much more interesting!

I kinda agree though, many games seems to be centered around making 5 cav in age 2 and then age up to age 3, where the player usually go for a goon/skirm combo.
It's understandable from the players perspective as he obviously want to win, it's just getting boring to watch.

The number of derailed threads are far from what they used to be. Ear and Callen have toned it down quite a bit.

If one takes dickofdestiny into consideration, Queen is actually a dictator.

I think if one were to pull up statistics of the number of posts/threads per day, one would see a serious decrease over the past 2 years. Its a guess, but I'd estimate there are easily 50% fewer posts than there used to be.
