Ironmonger & Silversmith
Welcome to episode 3 of 'Interjection brings up balance issues that mostly don't affect the game anyway'
To my knowledge, these cards don't see competitive play because:
-People rarely research amalgamation which doesn't cost a shipment
-By the time they would be worth sending, there's not a lot of coin left on the map to mine
Irongmonger
-Increases coin mine gather rate by 20%
Silversmith
-Increases coin mine gather rate by 20%
So, my question today is, would it be possible for these card to also make mines last longer? In previous titles, some techs would do this e.g., a vil gathering from a mine would collect 1 gold but only deplete 0.8 resources from the mine. I'm wondering if this is even possible in AOE3? And if it were, how impactful would it even be?
My initial thoughts are that these cards would still be bad. Let's be generous and say you have 10 vils on coin early on. So that's a bonus of aprox 2 vils for a shipment which doesn't seem worth it. The depletion bonus is unlikely to matter until much later on.
Eitherway, does this effect exist in the game? Or is it not possible?

I feel like this is something I knew a very long time ago.
Well then. I guess that clears up my question

Re: Ironmonger & Silversmith
Perhaps this feature would even buff furrier and spice trade into consideration if it made your hunts and berries last longer.
I think you're the expert on that, Aiz

Re: Ironmonger & Silversmith
Possible. Hardly a priority for next release.
Re: Ironmonger & Silversmith
It does exist in one place; Indian villagers "yield" 1.5x wood from trees. SWs just yield regular number of resources
What this means is that an Indian villager will be able to gather 450 wood from a tree that normally contains 300 wood.
I don't think yield can be affected through a tech like you want, though. Could test some things.

Re: Ironmonger & Silversmith
That's a shame :(
What if a new settler type was added to the game 'amalgamation teched settler' which yields 1.2 from coin mines.
And amalgamation would transform all your 'settlers' into an 'amalgamation teched settler'? (would look identical to normal settler)
Would that be a work around?
______________
@zoom I'm just exploring ideas because it's interesting, I'm not suggesting that all my wacky ideas should be implemented immediately

Cause they don't
You can test it quite easily by using the cheat "speed always wins" and gathering up a mine with them.

Sounds possible, though duplicating whole protounits for this would be quite unwieldy. I think it could probably be done by having multiple gather actions and switching between them with the tech.

I think having more upgrades that allow players to stay in their base for longer, will not make the game more interesting. I think it's interesting that a German players has to push out for mines at some points, and a Brits player has to push out for food.

Well ideally it would only allow you to stay in your base for 1-2 min more, which might make a nice change to the timings. You might say then that this card would not be worth it for 1-2 min, but you will sitll have it used on the rest of the resources on the map.
last time i cryed was because i stood on Lego

This was only in AS Fanpatch, I believe.
Re: Ironmonger & Silversmith
The AoE3 campaigns are dead to me. Even fucking SC2 has better campaigns, and those are whoreshit.umeu wrote:zoom wrote:Pretty sure naziwagons do not have such a feature.Aizamk wrote:SW deplete mines slower, Indian vills deplete trees slower.

Re: Ironmonger & Silversmith
I find ur suggestion very smart. Pls do it devs.
Re: Ironmonger & Silversmith
AoE3 campaings are the jam, you uneducated caveman
but you'd have to send a card for it that might as well be something like 6 musks
