Pull" Trick" discussion
Re: Pull" Trick" discussion
Sometimes I wonder why we even debate these things. This has been part of the game for like 15 years and it's never been an issue. I don't see why it would start being an issue now that we've opened a thread about it. There are lots of things that break the game more readily than that, imo.
The EP has bigger fish to fry. Like updated, wonkier maps and working on niche parts of the game to freshen everything up. That's how I see.

If it gets nerfed it's ok I think. Removing it would be horrible and I'd definitely stop playing ep then, but that won't happen since it's not even possible anyway.

Re: Pull" Trick" discussion
I dont understand why all the complaint about the pull trick. It is something which takes skill and doesnt even works all of the time. Players who take the effort to use some advanced micro should get rewarded for it. The thing is that you rarely will have the time to always use it correctly. So for what reason is gibson complaining about it? Its a bug/exploit? This feels more like another gibson shitpost tbh.
At least pulling stuff is more fun and engaging than sitting behind a wall, while playing your own little treaty game for 20min and getting away unpunished. So pls focus your attention on actual problems instead of starting bitching about minor gameplay features, while there are still real elifents in the room, which need taken to be care of.

Re: Pull" Trick" discussion
lowering the max velocity seems like a good compromise to me, i dont think its that op but can definitely grant you advantages, usually quite silly

I suggest reading the posts in the thread.Makrokosmos12 wrote:I dont understand why all the complaint about the pull trick.
Pay more attention to detail.

You dont understood my post i think. I feel this whole topic got way to big for the difference it would make, if it got changed.

Garja wrote:As I said before, the pull trick does feel wrong often times. Just makes kiting skirms even better and potential cav switches more useless, for example.
Getting away from snaring is 50-50, sometimes good sometimes bad. At least without pulling trick there was consistency.
In general I'm not sure it actually adds much to the game in terms of making it more skillful. Regardless of that we should check what happens if maxspeed gets nerfed.
It really doesn't make cav switches "more useless." If you have large armies you can't even really use the pull trick, and in smaller armies are you going to cav switch if the opponent has a lot of anticav? Probably not. So your opponent probably won't even have enough units to pull skirms away, and is a lot less likely to have units in position to pull them away from cavalry, especially if you're flanking or anything like that.
Again, these situations don't arise as frequently as people are suggesting. Of course it sounds great on paper, but making effective use of it in game in a way that's going to significantly effect the outcome of the game is a completely different story.

Re: Pull" Trick" discussion
Yeah tbh you rarely have more cav units than skirms... It's mostly relevant for ger and dutch because you may get more uhlans/ruyters than skirms, so when you have less than 25 skirms you can sometimes pull trick and hit and run hand cav. For most civs I doubt it can ever be the case

But for the record, i think its hilarious u kids talking shit about the pull trick. u wouldnt say this shit to him in wide open areas, he's slippery. not only that but he wears the fastest looking clothes, drags units to the safest locations and hangs out with rescued explorers. yall are pathetic lol

Re: Pull" Trick" discussion
Breaking news: MaxRunVelocity has absolutely no effect on unit running speed. It seems that it's used to apply proper running animation; unit will never show running animation if it's set to a too high value and unit will constantly play running animation if it's too low.
Re: Pull" Trick" discussion
That's only partially true Eagle, I tested it last night as well. I tried setting it to 4, 3, and 0, and there was definitely a noticable difference when they were being pulled, but definitely faster than the base speed even when maxrunvelocity was set to 0. Also when you set it to 0 it will constantly play the running animation no matter what and looks ridiculous.
Re: Pull" Trick" discussion
Nah, don't think so. I set it to 600 and the units moved at regular running speed, just no running animation. The effect appears to be purely visual, might just look deceiving because of what animation you're used to.

This statement has been thrown around so much and never did it actually happen.
Re: Pull" Trick" discussion
Pull trick has to be nerfed. It's incredibly lame mechanic and it skews balance toward those civs who can afford big ranged unit armies.
Re: Pull" Trick" discussion
Not this again.
