Re: Pull" Trick" discussion
I did follow the discussion, so I know that. What I mean is if everbody is in favor of getting rid of the pull mechanic, why not abort the formation system as a whole? Else why is the discussion still going on?

Re: Pull" Trick" discussion
Alternatively, asking players to not intentionally use Pull trick seems ridiculous.
Re: Pull" Trick" discussion
Cause even with removed formations its still there. @EAGLEMUT posted a video of it a few pages back. Also even if it's a positive change, thats way to big of a change for ep to make, as it completely changes many aspects of the game.
Re: Pull" Trick" discussion
yea asking people not to "intentionally abuse" it is ridiculous. The discussion is about the theory, everyone knows that nothing will change.

You re a fucking idiot, that s all i answer.
you cant even reply with a calm mind without using profanity if the forum rules explicitly asks you to do that.

Pull trick has no drawbacks, unlike alt d. Alt d should be an allowed in the game, and pull trick banned.

it does have drawbacks. It makes you look like a tryharding nerd, reducing your social standing in the primate group.

This yes/no bs is pretty hilarious
@richard answer this with either "I'm a gigantic hypocrite" or "I don't know what hypocrite means"

Re: Pull" Trick" discussion
Im pretty sure if the pull trick mechanic was removed from the game the people who are now against it will ask eaglemut to bring it back.
We can even do it in the beta version if its not a lot of work

Re: Pull" Trick" discussion
I dont think anyone wants it removed entirely, will change this game completely and for the worse. People arguing against the pull trick want the max velocity to be decreased resulting in units more likely to be snared, vills herding are punished by cav raids, civs with 2 hereos/2units age 1 cant escape as easily(they have a big enough advantage already just by having 2 scouts), etc...

Re: Pull" Trick" discussion
Dude that was a feature clearly intended by the developers and not game breaking at all, get over it

Re: Pull" Trick" discussion
Yea it was intended by the devs and we can't remove it or else we break the game. It's just sad we can't reduce its effect either.

I don't believe the devs set down at a table discussing how people should save cannons by making them run like fucking F1 cars
Re: Pull" Trick" discussion
If you think that the situation above was intended to be able to happen be the devs you need to attend this school

Re: Pull" Trick" discussion
Nah dude its a feature, like the devs also intended alt d
Re: Pull" Trick" discussion
Pull trick is historically accurate. If you’re a dirt grub rifleman and the mass of your own army is hightailing it out of there because there’s a horde of urumis coming over the hill screaming MEY JARA OOM, you’re definitely gonna sprint to catch up. It breaks realism to have the rifleman just walk at a normal pace
And also yea that’s just how military formations work, the people on the outside have to walk/run faster than the people on the inside in order to keep the shape.

Re: Pull" Trick" discussion
I don't really have an opinion on this discussion but I just want to say that seeing falcs running like that is hilarious.
Re: Pull" Trick" discussion

I never said that. I said the mechanic was intended by the devs. It's a core feature of the game.
Now did they intend it to be abusable like that? No. Which is why I said I wish we could reduce the effect of pull trick.
But yeah you guys can keep spamming "ogm pull trick very lammer abuse" as much as you want, it's very useful since we can't fix it anyway.

Re: Pull" Trick" discussion
The unintended mechanics are what makes high skill plays so exciting. I never cared about the “devs intentions” argument. The devs were regular people like anyone else. Starcraft broodwar has tons of unintended mechanics like mutlisk stacking (group muta with one overlord far away and they clump so well it’s like one unit) that made the game exciting.
Pull trick let’s top level players do interesting things with precisely placed clicks and understanding of the formation mechanics to squeeze out extra unit kills and be more aggressive than average players or save units that are in danger.
You can do things like shoot with your muskets then force them into long formation to run ahead (by clicking far ahead). Then shoot again with the front few and force long formation again to hunt down retreating infantry. The same thing works with goon units. So it’s not a purely defensive tactic. That’s just one of several different ways to use it.
That falc pull example - you could have caught the falcs still if you were better coordinated and that use of the pull truck was a pretty basic one that required all his units be tied up to make the pull happen.

Re: Pull" Trick" discussion
I agree it adds something to the game and makes it more interesting, but it still feels too powerful sometimes tbh. Especially when you really know how to abuse it, which most people don't (that falc pull for example was looking impressive but it's really easy to do)
