An Interesting Though
Is this title a typo?
Re: Smackdown #8 - An Interesting Though
sounds interesting, the fort can be used to secure future resources for civs like brits and ports or can be used to go aggressive and block hunts

Re: Smackdown #8 - An Interesting Though
We are probably going to see one or more cases where both players decide to build their fort in the center of the map, right next to each other. Should be interesting since buildings can't attack other buildings. I imagine the center of the map will be a no-go zone for both players until the third age at least because forts are so powerful.
For reference, a fort has 8500 hitpoints, 26 range and LOS (same as a falconet) and 150 ranged damage (x0.5 vs siege infantry & 0.75 vs artillery). Also has an anti-ship attack of 300.
A falconet does 200 damage against a fort. That means you need 43 hits to kill it entirely. A fort does 28.125 (150*0.75*0.25) damage to a falconet. That means it needs 8 attacks to kill a falconet. This means that a 2-falconet shipment is definitely not sufficient for dealing with a fort, you need quite a bit of back-up.

Re: Smackdown #8 - An Interesting Though
It surprises me too, but I'm not sure where I would have made a mistake In any case, I don't think it would be wise to attack a fort with your 2 falconet shipment unless you have a huge lead in military power.umeu wrote:edeholland wrote:We are probably going to see one or more cases where both players decide to build their fort in the center of the map, right next to each other. Re: Smackdown #8 - An Interesting Thought
What civs have mortar shipments? Would those be viable?
EDIT: petards are probably better. Maybe a Dutch petard FF?

Re: Smackdown #8 - An Interesting Thought
You should make it so that each time you age up, the fort gains hitpoints and attack, so as to encourage the tech game.
