Warchiefs Civs
Warchiefs Civs
Why weren't they so popular? I never ever ever see a game with anyone ever using them.

Re: Warchiefs Civs
Cos weak. Cos boring.
On the official patch Iro was so OP that no-one wanted to play against it. Other than that, see above.
Of course there is the notion that Aztecs are actually decent atm. See @Diarouga's games in the mono-civ tournament for some awesome examples.
Sioux recently got buffed and are used quite often.
But these are recent EP changes. Before that, civs with no artillery / no cavalry AND artillery were considered unfun against something like India, or even against Europeans.

Because they are relatively weak. Civs like fre/germ simply dominate them. Versus asian civs they are slightly better though because asian civs are slow.

Re: Warchiefs Civs
I think that Iro is indeed underplayed because they used to be banned from tournaments so people didn't play them.
Aztec is "relatively weak" as Somppu said. The civ is very hard to play (one of the two hardest I'd say), and not very rewarding because it's not as good as the nilla civs. And Sioux is a very unique civ, you can't just semi ff and go skirm/goon, which means that you have to spend a lot of time to master it, and people don't want to spend this time.

Sioux is weak? lol
And iro is definitely not a bad civ. Aztecs are arguably not very good but they're definitely not horrible.
And if we're talking about RE, all twc civs are decent because of shit maps, and iro is obviously op.

Sioux is the worst RE civ.

Re: Warchiefs Civs
Yeah that doesn't follow on RE maps. Sioux might be the worst RE civ on EP maps, but the raiding potential and mobility are assets on low hunt maps.
I'd probably rank Dutch as worst RE civ.

Re: Warchiefs Civs
Hot take incoming
At the sub 30 level the native civs don't see play because they're all boring. All the civs get their own gimmick that defines their playstyle; Brits get manors, Dutch get banks, Russians get cheap units, etc. Native civs get the privilege of having all of their units be unique, but they by and large fall into the unit types that we're familiar with and thus don't have true uniqueness. Forest prowler musk rider isn't different enough from skirm goon to make me interested.
Iro's gimmick is that they get extra buildings when they age up.
Aztec's gimmick is that all their horsey bois don't ride horses.
Sioux's gimmick is that they're all horsey bois, which is kinda cool but it turns out that you need to have some modicum of skill to not get rolled by heavy infantry, and even when you do you have skill you have to play in a way that makes everyone pest you.
The other part of it is that many of their units are incredibly frustrating and unsatisfying to use. So many of the units (even the villagers) use thrown projectiles/arrows instead of guns which result in slow animations and weak sound effects. It's a great feeling when your falconets rip through a line of infantry in a flurry of +10s. It's not nearly as cool when your tomahawks quietly throw sticks at people until they die, regardless of how mechanically effective they are.

Yea this was a issue for me when I was learning Sioux on retail patch. For a long time I was maining Sioux and either I would try to do something creative (like a FI, or FF, or pistolero rush, or axe rider/ convert to rifle rider card) and lose,
oorr,,
I would just mass bow riders in age 2 and crush people and then they would complain and say "sioux OP, noob", or even refuse to play against me at all if I picked sioux.
the entire civ is a gimmick so either you gimmick and win and your opponent feels cheated, or you gimmick and lose and you feel cheated.

They just don't scale past the BB timing, which they have to survive to get anyways.

Sioux was mostly fine on re lol. Definitely not the worst. Not even on ep maps.
Re: Warchiefs Civs
The issue with Sioux is that playerbase thinks it's lame.

Re: Warchiefs Civs
Bowriders are definitely fun in team games, but in a dirty sort of way
Re: Warchiefs Civs
It's a shame to play these lame civs if you're a civilized man.
(And sioux is the most bad-ass one. Ensemble staffs designed bow rider using their asshole, not their brain.)
Besides, their units and buildings look so ugly.
