Poll: Laptop or Desktop
Curious, unfortunately not a way to sort results by PR but do you think it affects skill ceiling?

What about a laptop with monitor and keyboard?

Assuming a good laptop (no graphics bottleneck) and of course external keyboard then no. However if any the two limitations are present, then ye it affects your gameplay and likely caps your potential.
Desktop is just better for gaming. Even just a bigger monitor can help because you see stuff better.

It makes a big difference.
I have been on a laptop for like 3 years and after starting to play on a desktop pc i doubt i'll ever play on my laptop again.
Kaiser says he plays on a shitty laptop, but how often have we seen him complain in one of his streams: ugh cant do this and that on my shitty laptop in bed. So yea it does of course affect skill ceiling.

I play on my laptop, but ideally I'd like to play on desktop. I don't think it affects my skill anyhow
Re: Poll: Laptop or Desktop
I was pr 29 on a laptop and pr30 on a desktop so it's clear desktop is better
Re: Poll: Laptop or Desktop
In my experience it didn't really make much of a difference. The biggest difference is that my old laptop would lag sometimes when there were lots of units on the screen, whereas my new desktop doesn't.
Otherwise, though, I use the same mouse as before, and having a larger screen / external or mechanical keyboard has made 0 difference for me. I'm kind of convinced that any perceived improvement is mostly just the placebo effect.

Re: Poll: Laptop or Desktop
yea using same mouse (and keyboard) should result in no difference whatsoever right? For me the main difference was the mouse, as the one I used with my laptop was clunky and very impractical in hindsight. Switching to a standard desktop keyboard from a laptop one was slightly challenging, I dont think much of an improvement comes from that. Ergo having a good mouse is probably just the most impactful aspect for an rts

The problem is mostly "in bed" there. I don't have a table for the mouse then obviously.
Playing on laptop is not optimal, but it's not horrible

Re: Poll: Laptop or Desktop
Ye I think mitoe is right. With an external mouse and keyboard, and assuming the laptop is good enough to run aoe3 smoothly, it probably doesn't make much of a difference. In 2016 I played on a laptop for a couple months because I thought that the unable to allocate memory error was computer related, and I thought switching would help (the laptop had better specs than my old computer). Was on the same desk with the same mouse and keyboard, and aside from maybe a couple games getting used to it it didn't really make a difference for me. If the laptop is shitty (doesn't run aoe3 smoothly) or it's in a different/bad setup that's a different story.

Obviously playing on a laptop with a small screen is a disadvantage. It's like you are playing zoomed in XD

I feel like I played better when I had an external keyboard for laptop, now fingers slip/miss hotkeys on the laptop keyboard.

You don’t end up seeing less though, unless you're playing on something lower than 720p. Otherwise with both 1280x720 and 1920x1080 you see the exact same amount of stuff on the screen.

Re: Poll: Laptop or Desktop
My laptop was also 1920x1080 so it wasn't really an issue for me.

Yes, my laptop restricts my skill level to 24.. not a lame reason.
