how much gameplay does 10 days of AI practice translate to?

Nah, it was more like months of training.
Also the AI had unrealistic APM and used a hack (the equivalent of zoom hack). It lost to a 2nd tier GM after the hack was removed.
I’m pretty sure they said that they were having bad results for months, but only recently they had really cracked the problem, and since then, it had only 10 days to train. I know about the zoom hack and apm, but if the 10 day thing is true, I think it’ll likely become a strategy god and be able to beat people without zoom hack and such. That’s just speculation from me, I guess well have to wait and see.
10 human days, for an AI that's a lot of time.

Yea, but now I’m saying it will have 200-300 human days, which I think is likely to lead to a huge difference.

I don't know. In term of options, Starcraft is much much more complicated than chess and go, thus the computers really can't "solve" the game. Also the computer was like really bad strategically, not even master level, and the difference between a low master and a top GM is huge.
Hmm yea I’ve never played SC so I have zero idea about how the strategy looked

I'm not sure it was 10 days, but I remember it was about 200 years for a human.

AI's start from scratch. scratch, scratch. you can't really compare human time to computer model training time. it's like you have to train a shell of a human who doesn't understand that it even has eyes. then it realizes it can see. then it realizes that the things it sees are meaningful. then it realizes that it can interact with the things it sees. Then it realizes after '100 years' that it can actually 'win' a game if all of its interactions are performed in a certain sequence. Then it tries similar sequences over and over to figure out which one is most likely to give it the 'win.' humans become experts in pattern recognition in something like 5 years. and an extremely focused AI takes 200 human-years to become a starcraft-only-pattern recognition expert.
They removed the zoom hack from the AI and it lost, but it had only trained overnight with the new limitation (if I remember correctly). IMO it's highly likely that alpha star will able to beat top players even without micro and macro advantages.

heres an old(er) game, parfait vs kiljardi. doing the old skool xbow pike rush meta.
if you watch closely when he pans back to his base, he's got settler wagons / vills on berries the entire time, even tho he is pressuring his opponent and had no real fear of being raided. whats up with that? back then, did good players really not have the game knowledge to know that berries are slow vs hunts?

Knowledge-wise, the old pros were bad. Mechanically I have to admit that he's pretty decent though.
