Windu was the chosen one. He was the only "kill" that Anakin immediately regreted in Ep. III. And then, in Episode VI, Luke cut off Vader's hand like Vader did Windu's, and Palpatine tempted him just like he tempted the father years earlier. Vader remembered the Windu situation and went "NOOOO". Palpatine fell down an abyss like the jedi master 20 years earlier, and after he died, what did we see? Wind!

Think of it. How come Windu knew about the prophecy and immediately questioned the boy being the chosen one? How come he was so arrogant and powerful? He believed to be the chosen one himself. And in fact it was him who damaged Palpatine in Episode III into a limping monsterface, allowing others to just finish him off at some point in the future.
