There was TLS (although he wasn't exactly pro but almost).
Pognon (another French player) also left in 2010 and was top50 Europe in 2015 although he wasn't pro either.

There are quite a few! Most notably minimart (aka @blackwidow ) reaching GM. I was Masters during the first year of LOTV but I haven't played in a long while.

pretty sure a rusty masters2 player can reach d1 by making only lings/marines/zealots vs everyone and macroing
