Just wondering if there is a difference here? Are these two affiliated or completely separate entities? Who needs the funding more?

I like to donate once in a while to keep tournaments going but am a little confused here.

Good question! ESOC and Escape are two separate entities with close bonds but non-intertwined finances. ESOC funds most AoE3 tournaments. The upcoming LAN tournament is funded entirely by Escape and Escape also funds several showmatches. ESOC will (for the time being) only host AoE3 tournaments whereas Escape is focused on the entire AoE series, most notably AoE2.

The short and most unbiased answer I can give you is to donate to whomever you prefer having read the previous paragraph. One thing to keep in mind is that there's no competition; any donation is great and appreciated and you can't donate to the 'wrong' party.

Since I solely watch AoE3 the decision is easy.

I think it's better to just sub to escape, the number of subscribers related to each game seems to swing their decision in funding either game

It's hard to say for sure. It's a question that I've asked myself a few times. Both deserve donations for sure.

I want Escape to take off really well. I also want ESOC to continue doing their own thing. So, it's like, both?

A donation to Aiz never goes wrong though because of the work he did on the UI.
