Was planning to play on ESOC Standard Maps (random maps)

But we can pick some maps if you prefer.

Heavy Cannons are restricted until age 4. (Unless you've tested it and think age 3 is more interesting?)

20:00 is great

I get the argument that heavies will be extremetly powerful in the earlier ages, but why not have it change around? Game 1, they're trainable from age 1. In game 2, they're trainable from age 2 and so on. To have a more dynamic aspect and not have it go stale and play out the same every time.

eheheh pecelot-rules

Aw, what happened to the pecelot rules?
I was actually going to watch this with the HC dynamic. If it's just starting with +10 vills I'm not as interested

Works for me, maybe we will make a map pool still cuz that's a bit embarassing for the civ selection to play on rdm map. I will talk about that will castete. What are the civ restrictions rules though ?

I think any format could be interesting, however, keep in mind that we aren't gonna spends dozens of hours to try every combination (and this not only cuz we are a bit low, diarouga has never practise when he played smackdown and I doubt aiz has).
So keeping only one rule with HC in age 4 is not bad enable us to come up with decent plans easier which is in my opinion more interesting than doing full bullshit with rules that give more possibilities. So in the end Idk. From my part I have only tried a bit with HC being at least age 3, but from what I have seen, I think the theory in which you don't make HC in age 1 is the good one because it makes your build really fast (like you have a lot stuff at 4/5min already) while if you make a HC you are not gonna have anything else... The reason is probably that the ressources gathered early on scale really well.

Yeah it's not worth making them right away, that's exactly what makes it such an interesting dynamic. Early ITT people bandwagoned on "it's just gonna be HC vs HC immediately" and no one stopped to think that may not be true until the restriction was already in place.

All the better. Being forced to adapt to the unknown in the moment is what makes smackdowns fun.

Well Idk, for me what's interesting is more about how can you adapt to some changes in the game start. I like when the players think to a strategy to apply considering modifications in the game rather than being surprised by the change and acting randomly.

But then again about HC being trainable in age 1, that could be interesting. However if we change the rules now, it means we have no time at all to try it befor the smackdown since we play tomorow, so considering our different vues on it, for me it's bad, for you it's good^^

If you're acting randomly, you'd probably lose to the player who is acting based on prior knowledge and an intuitive game sense. That is to say, you wouldn't act randomly. No one who plays the game would. They would apply existing knowledge and try to adapt the best they can. The differences in strategies you get are what make smackdowns interesting.

This is another discussion but I think, in order to not defeat the purpose of the format, you could play around with a smackdown format where the rules are only made known minutes before the games start.

@bwinner @Guigs let's use the NWC map pool then with NWC civ rules.

I quite this variation Pecelot's idea:

Game 1: Heavies cannot be made until age 4
Game 2: Heavies cannot be made until age 3
Game 3: Heavies cannot be made until age 2
Game 4: Heavies can be made in any age for all remaining games
