Too much bashing of big papa G in this thread
His attitude towards the game is, imo, a reasonably healthy competitive attitude (striving to improve and to set the bar as high as possible, without holding grudges against people he loses against) and, even though he gets mad and a bit at the game from time to time and he likes to blame the lag (which is often an actual issue in competitive play), he doesn't make silly excuses to justify a loss.
If you want to improve you need to have a bit of "Garja mindset" in you, you need to play to win (which is not a bad thing), otherwise, if you stick to playing simply for fun you will never get better.

Improvement = Grind, not just in games, in life as well. Big achievements don't come without big efforts.

No but seriously, it's not like he actually hates anyone in this community as far as i can tell. Obviously he makes you feel the competition and all, he takes the game very seriously and everyone can tell he gets salty when he loses - I myself made a joking diagram about this - (yesh this is self bumping ), but his behaviour/attitude is not flame-y or unhealthy for the community.

That's pretty much true for most "high level" players. They just played A LOT for many years and gradually optimised their gameplay, until they got to the point where they make fewer and fewer mistakes and are able to profit from everyone else's mistakes to win.
It's really not much of a mystery. You just gradually learn to gradually squeeze more and more efficiency in your gameplay, until your baseline skills are just above the average. And that becomes habit.

Oh forgot one more factor:

- have big ego and grow it even more around your ability to play a vidya game

Yeah, it might also involve a certain type of personality too.

Every top player has the same attribute when it comes to being a top player. They play AOE3 more than any other player and keep playing for years and years and never take any breaks or very seldomly do but never have to "shake off the rust"

@RefluxSemantic I appreciate your write up, It is really useful. Just add one more thing, For hotkeys, i use F1, F2, F3 buttons for control groups 5, 6, 7 which can be assigned to buildings...tc, rax, stable and for the groups 1, 2, 3 , i use the same keys.... for inf, anti cav, artillery etc., so that i make sure that all control groups are accessible closely to my left hand. I hope this thread helps other ppl like me, if they exist.
