Time taken to become Captain from Conscript
Time taken to become Captain from Conscript
To all the current PR 26 and PR 26+ out there, how much time did it take for you to become a captain from conscript?
Does not include noobbashing, smurfing and also free wins during the times when your opponent lost internet connection during the game.

Re: Time taken to become Captain from Conscript
It took me like 1.5 years but that's because I was 12 years old and I didn't really try to improve (I didn't know any BO, nor that you should train vills etc).
If you really focus on using control groups, and learning build orders it should be a few months.

Fine line to something great is a strange change.

Re: Time taken to become Captain from Conscript
I think number of games may be a better metric, I think for me it was about 2.5-3 years and around 800 games-ish?
Re: Time taken to become Captain from Conscript
2008-2017 so around 9years
Re: Time taken to become Captain from Conscript
I became captain on my main account three days ago
yeah, alright - can't let my e-dick shrink as much. Was only 2,5 years of Supremacy after never really trying and going inactive frequently. And some of my other accs have been on capt anyways
If you're basing this off beating me I'm not entirely sure it's a good metric to go by ;p

Re: Time taken to become Captain from Conscript
I mean it’s not the time that matters really but the amount of games.
Re: Time taken to become Captain from Conscript
It's not the same for everyone.
Some people stay below sergeant level even after playing for 10 years. There was a legendary guy on ESO, I think it was Nikrom, who used to have negative PR at some point. If you check out his ELO pages, he was losing game after game for months (his losing streak was 1753, a world record; no he wasn't a point trader, he really just kept pushing that rock, like a Sisyphus). I don't even understand what kind of thought processing could possibly take place in someone's mind to keep playing a game for years even though they win like 10 games per year. And yet, people like that exist. This level of mental resilience to perpetual loss is just something I could never aspire to achieve, it's a real feat of nature.
I guess this is what happens when you play alone, never compare what you do with what others do, never check forums, never learn build orders, never develop a method, just spam games with your favourite civ just like you get a cup of coffee in the morning, like a habit.
I think Nikrom gained slightly more than 1 PR per year. I know that ESO stats don't go back far enough, at some point the old ESO was taken down and a new one was put in place, and the old stats were lost. Not sure when this happened, may have been in 2009 or so. So Nikrom's stats were recorded starting from 2009 and the most recent games he played were in 2016. He went from PR 7 in 2009 to about PR 17 in 2016. That's about 10 PR in 7 years. If he kept this pace of progress, he could have become a top player in 28 years of playing AOE3.
PS. I have to admit I'm overly curious about how people's minds work and Nikrom is a challenge to me. I have to meet this guy one day and ask him: dude, what were you thinking when you were losing thousands of games in a row and just kept spamming games? What were you hoping? Maybe someone drops or goes afk? I need to understand.

Not bad, probably 22. My bath PR is quite low and everyone knows baths are for higher IQ peoples, like treaty. I'm working on it.

Re: Time taken to become Captain from Conscript
Realistically it's all about want and how you play rather than how much, as long as "how much" is enough.
Some are going to be more naturally talented, but the mark of any player wanting to improve is consistent activity, large game volumes, game analysis, and a healthy lack of complacency. Analyzing recs and watching POV of better players are both important, although I've never analyzed a rec I've lost - I think I'll start. One can be frustrated after a loss but one shouldn't ever avoid to learn why one lost (note this means one's own actions, not the map, not the MU).
Prerequisites include hotkeying all/majority of actions, being familiar with all the 'strats' a civ has up their sleeve (this requires scouting to discern), and when play level increases, a knowledge of all timings (what game time should a civ reach age 2, age 3, how long before a shipment pops, etc.).
Mechanics improve with consistent activity with large game volumes. Strategy improves with game analysis. Complacency hinders both. Both are crucial.
Hope this helps. In all seriousness, major rank should be attainable in a reasonable time by the vast majority of players who are smart about it. It doesn't have to take years.
