If aoe3 had the same ranking system as SC2

Post by frostibite »

Like Bronze, silver, gold, platinum, diamond, masters, grandmasters?

What PR ranges would be what if the AOE3 ranking system was like this?

0-8 - bronze
8-15 -silver
16-24 - gold
25-29 - plat
30-34 - diamond
35-39 - master
40+ - grandmaster

Yeah that would need to be proportional to player population.

The biggest problem with ranking in AoE3 is the lack of quicksearch or matchmaking in any way. You simply can't have an objective ranking system if you can pick your players. There are a few players of my rank who are clearly just playing 2nd lieutenants all day judging by their Elo. Either way, the change in rank wouldn't change anything if we know the PR ranges. A grandmaster rank sounds cool. Perhaps this is something that can be implemented with ESOC Elo, but I doubt it.

if someone with time and motivation wants to, we could compare all ELO or PR data that we have into percentages of the active players, then you can make a correlation with current sc2 ranks.

Grandmaster 756(0.20%)
Master 17 770(4.69%)
Diamond 90 834(23.99%)
Platinum 84 126(22.22%)
Gold 72 837(19.24%)
Silver 81 938(21.64%)
Bronze 30 395(8.03%)
Population 378 656(100.00%)

But I believe the data that supahons used is from all accounts, maybe the lower ranks of sup are inflated by a people who played only once in the accout. The sc2 data considers only active players in the last season.

A more accurate way of doing this is probably taking the percentage distribution on aoe3 from active 1v1 jp elo, where there are only 4400 active 1v1 players

it's from the esoc population statistics (Distribution of maximum achieved player ranks on ESO, as recorded by ESOC Elo Ladder (its recording started in 2017-06).
the inactive players are counted too in this data.

Hmm ok quick and dirty (and possibly flawed due to things I'm not considering), so jp elo has 9355 "active" accounts (idk what counts for that). So the top ~19 would be the same proportion as GM for sc2, top ~457 Master, top ~2702 Diamond.
So approx PR36+ GM, PR 25-35 Master, PR 16-24 Diamond and then idrc below that.

It doesn't change a lot without conscripts :hmm:
It's the maxium rank a player has achieved in the last 50 months. Maybe without cheaters or inactive players it would be more accurate. I don't think it would be a lot different, because it's quite impossible to reach Masterserg/1st Lt/Major+ if you don't have a certain skill/gameknowledge ... It's quite unlikely to get there, if you play this game just for fun and don't care about ranking up.

Is it possible to implement the Elo instead of PR for EP? So that when you hover above a players name, it shows Elo instead of PR?

I got curious and did the math for current JP elo, only active 1v1 players. Bellow the minimum Elo for each league.

Grandmaster 756(0.20%) 2507 ( kaiser )
Master 17 770(4.69%) 2038 ( @macacoalbino )
Diamond 90 834(23.99%) 1672
Platinum 84 126(22.22%) 1605
Gold 72 837(19.24%) 1569
Silver 81 938(21.64%) 1471
Bronze 30 395(8.03%) 1012

It doesn't really work. GM is too hard to reach, and you start with 1600 elos ie in plat while you should start in bronze.

You dont start from the botton. as you said, you start from 1600 in aoe3, and you start with plat mmr in sc2. the stats show that clearlly: half the players go down from the starting point, half up.

GM isnt really a fair comparison because 0.2% is just to few people with only 4000 active players.
