Has anybody given any thought to this yet? What do you guys think is the best way to calculate a player's worth, and what do you think is the max. amount that is logical to spend on a top player. Thought's?

I've been thinking about it yes.
You have 10k ducks, and you want to get 5 players, which means that you want to spend on average 2k/player.

In my opinion the maximal amount to spend on a player is not too high, as it's not about winning a series, but about the score. Thus, getting a 5k player who's going to 3-2 a 2k5 player seems like a huge waste.
Because of the counter pick system, a 5-0, or even a 4-1 at high level seems very unlikely, so I'd say that 3k-3k5 is the max amount you should spend on a player.

As for the player tiers imo (one tier difference means 3-2 or 4-1, two tier difference means 4-1 or 5-0):

Tier 1 : (3k +)

Raphael
Lukas
diarouga
hazza54321

Tier 2 : (2k5-3k)

WickedCossack (could be tier1 if he prepares)
knusch
Rusty Samwise12
Soldier
TLS
dicktator
breeze
Rusty erik
miggo
Garja

Tier 3 : (1k5-2k5)
Jerimuno
Flontier
Lecastete
bwinner
theonlybaus
Rusty and not serious about the game Goodspeed (tier 2 if he's serious but I doubt it)
Mongobillione
optimus
gibthedurty
bobabu
GiveUAnxiety
noel
sircallen

Tier 4 : (1k-1k5)
sheckler
lemmings121
gibson
blackwidow
kaister

You also have to get a good team synergy. If there's a team spirit and people practice together, they're going to be better than if they don't respect each other. Thus, the manager should discuss that with the champion and the players he picks.

Last thing. I think that the managers should announce a tier 3 player first to understand their opponent's strategy instead of rushing the tier 1/2.

If you get 1 from tier1, 2 from tier2 and 3 from tier3 then you are good to go.

Yea, that would be a great team lol. Only 3 tier1 players and 7 tier2 players so getting 1 tier1 and 2 tier2 is quite unlikely, let alone getting 2 tier3 on top of that lol.

I'm wondering if 1 tier1 + 2 tier2 + 1 tier3 + 1 tier4 is better than 3 tier2 + 2 tier3 though.

I don't believe @[Armag] diarouga 's strategy is correct. It's the same situation in sports -- if you don't overpay for a superstar, another team will, and you will be stuck with empty cap space for no reason.

Let's say you subject yourself to a max spend of 3.5k for a tier 1 player, and 3k for a tier 2 player. There are 3 tier1 players and 7 tier2 players according to your list.

Round 1 draft
Team 1 - drafts tier1 player for 4k
Team 2 - drafts tier1 player for 4k
Team 3 - drafts tier1 player for 4k
Team 4 - misses out on tier1 player completely

Furthermore, there is enough cap space left for teams to pay >3k for a tier 2 player as well. So team 4, who refuses to "overpay", will miss out on tier1 players entirely, and miss out on the top half of tier2 players. When the league begins, you're now getting pummeled on boards 1 and 2. Sure, you have the best board 3 and board 4 in the league (ironically, by overpaying them, because you have so much empty cap space), but is the difference big enough to overcome the losses on the first 2 boards? I don't think so.

My point is that you won't get pummeled on boards 1 and 2 because the difference between the top players is too small. For instance, I don't believe that tier1 player can 5-0 tier2 players. It might happen once, but most of the time it's going to be 3-2 or 4-1 for the tier1 player.

Let's take an example with only 2 teams to make it simple. Thus 1 tier1 player, 2 tier 2 players, 3tier3 players, 4 tier4 players.

team A : 4k on a tier 1 player (It's a mistake imo but well)
3k on a tier 2 player (Also a mistake)

A has 3k left and needs 3 more players. Thus the manager needs to spend 2k max on one player, and 500 on the other two

Now team B :

2k on a tier 2 player (because A can't match it)
3*2.1k for the 3 tier 3 players (again, A can't match it)
1.7k on a tier 4 player

A gets the 3 other tier4 players

In the end :

A :
tier 1
tier 2
tier 4
tier 4
tier 4

B :
tier 2
tier 3
tier 3
tier 3
tier 4

And I'd argue that B has a better line up as he picked the best tier4 player.
Of course with 4 teams involved, it's more complicated but I still believe that overpaying for the top players isn't a good strategy, because they won't magically win 5-0.

The strategy also depends on the champion to be honest.
For instance, I think that SKG would be right to overpay for raphael to fight against turk/mitoe/kaiser while somppu will play against the other tier1/top tier 2 players.

Couldn't the team chose shit players on purpose and then have like 2 tier one players with their coins and use them for all their matches, looking at Jack gaming as a good pick here if true.

You don't want to pick shit players as you need to pay at least 500 for them.
I don't know Jackgaming but getting a pr6 who's going to lose 5-0 every game for 500 ducks is not a good plan, it's just a waste of money.
You want to pick the tier4-5 players in the end because they'll only cost 500 ducks once everybody is out of ducks.

Calling a tier4 player early and trying to make the other teams pay 1k+ for him sounds like a good strategy however. It's a gamble though, because if they don't take the bait you're going to get a tier4 player for 1k+.

The auction is going to be very challenging for the managers, there are so many factors to take into account :
1. You need to estimate people's level (considering how it went for the NWC seeding, it's definitely not easy, even with the champions helping). It's even harder as you need to consider the map pool (some players are very map dependant), and the civ pool (it's BO5 in the tour, and BO7 in the playoff).
2. You need to consider the team spirit
3. You don't have full intel on how the other teams are going to bet, thus you'll have to gamble sometimes.

Maybe the limit should be lower, as there's a load of players that i doubt will be worth 500, myself included.
