How to play on a mac?

I want to help my brother set up the game so we can play like we did when we were younger but am having a hard time getting it running on his macbook. He has a steam copy of the game and i've tried several tools to get that to work but haven't had any luck. Is it necessary to buy a copy of the mac cd? If anyone has any advice it would be much appreciated.

You could consider trying Crossover or WineSkin--they're essentially windows emulators.

Crossover is easier to use, but also requires you to purchase it. Although I believe there's a 14 or 30 day trial you can try out and see if it works / if you like it.

WineSkin is more complicated, but it's free. If you're relatively computer savvy and take a bit of time to do some research on how to use it you could also consider using this.


I would recommend avoiding purchasing the Mac version of the game if your brother intends to play online at all. The Mac and Windows versions of the game are not cross compatible, so he would only be able to play with other Mac-users, of which there are few, especially nowadays as GameRanger barely supports the Mac OS anymore (and is also the only place to play online on Mac). If you don't plan to play online, however, it's a totally acceptable alternative to trying to get the Windows version of the game working on a Mac.

Simple, install Linux or Windows on it :^)

One option would be to install Windows on your Mac using BootCamp. It essentially partitions your hard drive between the Windows and Mac OS, and allows you to switch between them by restarting your computer. The downside is that your brother would have to buy Windows, but the basic home version is fairly cheap these days.

You can just download a windows iso from Microsoft’s website and install it fine.
