Should it be time to use real-life pictures instead of avatars
Just came to my mind, one interesting step towards "professionalism" ( ) could be using real-life pictures like they did in LAN instead of ESO avatars in ESOC tournaments. Like they do in major E-sport games. This could be for overlays/match hype previews.
This could be voluntarily so nobody is forced to send/have their picture there. Could maybe increase the interest of people not so familiar to the community
I'm sorry for no Garja option.

The problem you have in this regard is some people obviously won't want to have their face up, which causes a problem as it looks even more amatuer to have a mix of avatars from the game and actual pictures.

They could pick their favourite pokemon or Yu-Gi-oh card and use that.

I like his idea. For people that do not want their image out there, would it not be pretty easy to black out their picture so its just the outline?

Fuck Facebook and all Facebook clones and facebook's eaten womb-twin, and LinkedIn. Images are meant to be rewarding, earned. Face fuck photos feed is a Big Bang's laugh track, telling me its *meant.* Where's the sudden fun in less, to find more?

It also has the added benefit for the players that they are more recognizable if and when they decide to stream with face cam.

I responded with Bad, although I think it might work in the late stages of the tournament, maybe starting from semifinals.
Earlier than that and I think the problem of turning away some players impacts the community more than the benefit of recognizable player faces.
There are all sorts of reasons why someone might not be comfortable revealing their face. Some people might be afraid of racial or gender discrimination, others feel embarrassed about their age or the way they look, and still others might be worried that people from their non-gaming life could somehow see those pictures.
For aspiring pros I think giving up some privacy is not an unreasonable expectation, but for general participants I think this is too much to ask.

I don't agree with the professionalism argument because (1) ESOC is not an e-sports studio (and to my knowledge does not want too be) and (2) professional tourneys show the players faces so viewers can recognize them, not for hype. I don't see what purpose using people's faces for avatars would serve aside from satisfying viewers' curiosity.

It looks professional when Escape took photos at their studio, but a mix of photos taken by players in different lightings, bad cameras, etc would not look as good.

The less we know about each other the better it is unless you want to put that information out there.
