3wws can help a lot against a musketeer composition but I find 5dopple very useful for mass anticav and defend as well from Raid or rush. Standard German deck should be with this 2 card, but I don't have space cause generally I play with 8,9uh 7,8skirm 1kwood1kcoin,refrigeration Royal mind and 13jaggers, (5dopp o 3wws).

8 Uhlans may sound bad on paper when you put it like that but the swing value of the shipment after a close fight is massive. Just imagine you're fighting against France over the last resources on the map. Both of you are down to say 10-15 skirms and a few goons/ww. What can he send to reinforce? 3 cuirs? You get 8 Uhlans, clean up, take the last mine and win the game. Can't do that with refrigeration.

In some match ups (like vs spain or aztecs) you can sneak in 5 dops instead of another card, like 1000w or some mercs. But tbh I don't know when was the last time I felt like I'd need 5 dops in fortress. If you'd have to choose between refrigeration or royal mint, you'd choose royal mint of course, but just don't have either of these cards in any standard 1v1 deck.

Because they don't have range, and can be kited by units with range, like WWs. They also don't get shadow tech'd.
However in a 60 unit comp slam (thinking ger mirror) some colonial dops can be beneficial as a lot of players can't micro vs them. They can also be set aside to defend uhlan raids while you're yourself mobile on the map. While dops are not ideal in age 3, they're more useful than crossbows, and have great potential to do lots of damage in age 2.
Dops do great if popped on any unit, giving some credence to the 5 dop shipment in MUs where Ger is not the aggressor.
