Thankfully I still have the recs. The game themselves are nothing special at all so posting them is just a formality.

I figured Hazza might not have them anymore so I might as well just post them.

Kaiser OP.

Really liking the random civs so far tbh. Might lead to some slightly unbalanced MUs, but overall the civ balance on EP isn't that bad and it prevents having always the same MUs on some maps.

Maybe there shouldn't be no TP maps, though, some MUs there could be bad. Eg for Otto.

Removing the TPless maps from the map pool has been a popular idea. It really seems like those maps are far from standard and becoming niche. Also, adding a single civ wheel re-spin or veto in these final rounds would be interesting to add. Ultimately GUA is the tournament admin and has full discretion

Just curious @Mitoe, why did you push so often in the port vs iro game when you had way more eco? Did you think you could win quickly anyway? Or were you afraid of Kaiser going age4 and getting super upped, unkillable FPs with light cannons?

Because at least from the comfy observer seat it looked as if you could also have just camped with 2x the eco, gone age4 into like goon/HC (plus a few culvs if he goes light cannons). But Idk ofc.

Well, first time I overestimated the strength of my army. I assumed that because my army was larger I could win, and I thought that with the number of goons I had I could kite my way out of a bad fight (which didn’t really end up being the case). I was up like 30 or 40 score, I knew I did some damage in age 2, and I was pretty confident it would be fine.

2nd time IIRC was right after that fight and my Mamelukes arrived. I knew his army wasn’t at 100% and I thought I could get a good trade with the Mamelukes. I think I got an ok trade, but nothing amazing.

Every time after this was mostly because I was at 200 pop or very close to 200 pop, and there’s just literally no point in sitting around when you’re max pop unless you’re aging or getting other tech—basically I want to fight while he’s at 150 pop and I’m at 200, rather than wait until he’s 160 or 170 or more while my army isn’t getting any stronger. I would have aged probably in this matchup any other time I have 200 pop, but I didn’t really have the food income for it because he killed my fishing boats, and I wasn’t going to have the resources to upgrade my units upon hitting industrial anyway. So fighting made the most sense.

Also worth mentioning that in general in this matchup my economy is going to be stronger (especially with water) and going to be growing faster than his. This means I can afford to take slightly suboptimal trades because I can replace my army more easily than he can, and overtime I’m training vills from 3 TCs and he’s only training from 1, so those trades will only turn out better for me the more I take. Not to mention if I’m keeping the army counts low, it’s going to make it harder for him to send army upgrades. When you only have 20 FP you’d rather send crates or units, whereas when you have 40 or 50 then sending an infantry upgrade is massive value.

That was more or less the thought process throughout the game.

Thanks @Mitoe. Generally I guess it makes sense to push your advantage when you have the upper hand.
