AOE3 without cards
I wonder if there would be a tournament where players won't be allowed to send any cards and just play with the civ only, just like the original AOE? That would be fun to watch.
Re: AOE3 without cards
It would be fun if balanced but unfortunately it's not balanced.

Disagree. Strategic unit pops make this game way more interesting. Shipments also speed the game up, which others might dislike but I appreciate.

I wonder how would some civs manage, I can imagine Spain and Japan being hurt a lot by this.

Re: AOE3 without cards
I played some game without sending cards and it doesn't feel like older AoE games to me, it feels like AoE3 but very, very slow. For booming civs like Dutch and Japan it takes a long time before they have set up their eco. Brits was still relatively okay, I think they may even be the best civ in this format. Ports are also fine, but it still takes long to reach the third age. Germany, Spain and India are basically unplayable, they have no advantages over any other civ.
Having no shipments means the player has to make less choices, I wouldn't say it is interesting to play or to watch.

This sums it up really well.edeholland wrote:Having no shipments means the player has to make less choices, I wouldn't say it is interesting to play or to watch.
Re: AOE3 without cards
Someone asked me to make a Great Plains map with disabled decks once. I think it was MikeDaisu. They tested the map on a stream at some point, but the whole thing didn't go further than that. There's not much to be hyped about having to play a game with a very slow progression to the next age.
I probably still have that map somewhere on a backup drive, if anyone's interested in playing something weird. IIRC, they asked me to upgrade the trade route at the start of the game, so that players would be able to speed up eco with some TPs.

Yeah it was boring af
For the people thinking "why no treasures?": Because without cards they are so impactful that losing age1 pretty much meant losing the game.

AOE3 is a based on timing, everybody love when 9 uhlan + 5 uhlan pop in a strelet mass (or stuff like that), it's so emotional!
