How would you feel about 30 card decks?
How would you feel about 30 card decks?
I think it’s pretty annoying to lock yourself in (or out) of some strategies at 1:30 in the game before you’ve had time to scout anything your opponent is doing. Also, I think there are some cards which may be marginally useful, but are just not as important as the 700w, 5v, etc. stuff that HAS to go in there. Stuff that comes to mind are church card, spy upgrade card, etc. I think having more options each game will greatly increase the strategic depth of the game.
I get that there is strategic depth to picking your deck wisely for the map/opponent, and in scouting decks. But I think the strategic depth of having several more options each game will outweigh this, and deck scouting will have to be replaced by actual scouting, which is something I think is a little missing currently from the game.

Just go play the Mapuche civ on Wars of Liberty mod and you're all set.
Re: How would you feel about 30 card decks?
Not sure a 30 card deck helps a ton if you are limited to 10 cards/age. That seems to be where most of the conflicts lie.
mad cuz bad
Re: How would you feel about 30 card decks?
It wouldnt matter a lot with 5 more cards but in general bigger deck would add more randomness and thats bad.
Would be ok if only scouting were more developped in the game and that scouting ability is balanced between civ but thats not the case.

The worst part about making decks is the limited slots there is to place cards. Usually the age 2 part is there I have issues.

Interesting would be the contrary to reduce the number of cards. Usually most cards cluster in age 2 and 3. Less cards means more thoughtful choice beforehand

I think a larger deck would make the game easier for newcomers but less rewarding for experienced players. Why have a deck at all and not just access to all cards unlocked in 1 "master" deck? Making the best/right or even good decisions would be less meaningful with larger decks. Additionally, a major aspect of the game would no longer be as skill based and feel watered down to me.
What I would like to see is some way to change your deck if you select the wrong one on accident but have yet to send a shipment. It does not happen as often to me anymore, but every once in a while I am stuck with a water deck on Deccan.

Shoot, even if I sent wood trickle card, but its in another deck, I wish I could change to all decks that have wood trickle in it and it would just not be available to send again.
Or maybe the option to change decks even if you sent shipments, but it will cost you a shipment.

Re: How would you feel about 30 card decks?
It's a little bit of unfair and op cause you can make rush-turtle game but with 25 cards you can't do that so effective
Re: How would you feel about 30 card decks?
A larger deck would give more meaning to shipment decisions, since there would be both more options, and greater room for mistake, as a result of that fact. It would also vastly improve the viability of non-meta strategies, since they wouldn't automatically be scouted (and since you'd be able to fit them in decks without overcommitting to them). Thus, I don't understand your first sentence.HeadKilla wrote:... Making the best/right or even good decisions would be less meaningful with larger decks. AoE3 players – despite the unprecedented ease of scouting, in the game – seem mortified at the very concept of scouting. It's evidenced, by the reaction of some, to the Japanese deck scouting bug fix, and to this very thread.
I think that a change along the lines of 30-card decks, and +1 card slots, per age, would be well worth trying. It could easily be reverted, if players turn out to disapprove. Since there are still so many more urgent issues, the suggestion was unfortunately dropped from EP7, in the early stages of development. We should observe the results of EP7.1, and take it from there.
