hmm the post on the official forums about the DE seems to have been deleted.....bad sign
Re: Age III: DE Beta sessions starting in early February
DE would end up being a lesser version of AOE3 than EP. What with UI, bug fixes, maps, balance.

Why is everyone hating on a game we haven't seen a screenshot of, let alone played?
Anyway, it's almost certain there will be some new content, whether it be maps, campaigns, etc. New civs aren't out of the question either, especially since there are some like the U.S. that are partially constructed already and could be finished with minimal cost and effort.

Re: Age III: DE Beta sessions starting in early February
I think for the DE there are 3 possibilities for how they'll balance:
1. They adopt EP, either EP7 or an earlier version. This is both the most unlikely (close to impossible) and best case scenario imo, since our EP has years of work and balancing put into it and I don't really trust the people working on aoe3de to balance well.
2. They don't adopt ep but start off with minor balance changes based on community suggestions and statistics (hopefully listening to top players as well).
3. They do what aoe2 de did, focus on stability first and don't worry about balance until after the game is released. Would mean for all of the beta as well as 2-4 weeks after release we are stuck with re balance.
In all possibilities except the first one we are probably playing on RE maps.

Re: Age III: DE Beta sessions starting in early February
Aoe2 de had lots of balance changes, and HD has been getting semi regular updates for a few years now, so it's not like it started from 2001 balance.
Re: Age III: DE Beta sessions starting in early February
I would be very worried, if the same people balancing AoE2:DE are going to be responsible for AoE3:DE. In fact, I would be worried, regardless, since AoE3 civilizations are far more diverse, than AoE2 ones, and this game is in a much worse state than AoE2, leading to a significant risk of eroding balance, design and quality.robo wrote:Aoe2 de had lots of balance changes, and HD has been getting semi regular updates for a few years now, so it's not like it started from 2001 balance.

AFAIK Forgotten Empires(FE) isn't developing AOE3:DE so no. I don't know if there is someone from ESOC giving them feedback about balance and other stuff but there has to someone who is familiar with the game giving information to devs.
Anyway since they want to invite people familiar with the game in first waves I would suggest that some of you would ask them directly if you can get invited(probably with list of names and reason). For AOE2:DE Turkman(FE) was asking on AoEZone for people to send him message if they want to invited(not sure how many did get invited) so probably there may be ways to be directly invited at least for some specific people.

Was any ESOC person contacted by Microsoft? Would make sense to contact the Community especially if it is densely concentrated on one website.

In my opinion it must also be developed by the esoc team, so they won't get away with it and a masterpiece will come out
